What the heck can you do to an A/T G?

Ok, wife needs to drive the G so i had to compromise..... and A/T it was.....
Now the questions are what can you really do to it (please list parts and brand) and how much performance lag will there be from the 6MT.

I'm no F1 driver but of course we all want to have our moment of fun with our G's. So in manual mode.... what is the optimal engine speed shift point to get as close to the 0-60 time posted by auto mags. I shift at about 4700-4800 (max tourque speed) but it doesn't seem like it's goin. Damn transmission.....

Thanks ppl....

You might try a search on Gordgee's GroundingGear. AT owners report that the said reduces the MM shift lag by a good amount.

Shift at the redline. If you shift a torque peak you are dropping it way outta the ideal range. Shifting it at redline keeps it in the high end of the torque curve. I dunno how laggy the MM is, but I assume it is laggy like most AT's so you probably have to shift it before it actually gets to redline.

What's a valve body? And where do you put this thing?

You can actually do plenty on an AT G. You can do all the simple mods that 6MT G except clutch and flywheel. You can do a torque converter mod just the same but not cheap. You can look up Tinman in the Socal forum he has a 5AT twin turbo can max out his HP at 650hp with 14psi. Are you smiling yet?!

Valve Body is in the tranny and is responible for shifting. Getting an upgrade of that (SGP is working on a great one now) will make the shifts really quick and firm. The one they are working on is supposed to be much better than Stillen or Level Ten's VB. Check out the mod section of this forum or the FI section at my350z for a video of it. It'll help with the shifting but it'll cost about 1 grand. May or may not be worth it for NA guys. Us FI guys really need it badly...

Keep in mind that the auto mags hold the brake and rev to about 5k then pop the brake and drop the hammer. Not typically recommended as an everyday occurance.

You wanna shift about 500 RPMS before readline-- And you should get the shift right as it reaches redline-- for me at least.
