Hey guys, I've only put on 200 miles on my new G and so far love the car. I have a few questions now that I've got my car back from dealer upgrades.

1) I got aluminum sport pedals that are nothing like what I expected. If anyone has factory aluminum pedals on their car can you post a pic? They put Razo pedals on my car that they ordered from Stillen. They're not bad, just not what I saw in a photo of what I thought were stock pedals.

2) My car feels gutless on the low end. I know it's not broken in yet but after driving the loaner sedan, that thing had a lot of punch. So naturally the Coupe should be even better! Only mine feels a lot weaker. I'll punch it from 2K rpms - 4K rpms keeping it in break in rules in 3rd or 4th gear. It literally feels like TURBO LAG! There's nothing there. God I pray I don't have a lemon. I know it's not supposed to feel like this. I might take another test drive in one of their other coupes to see how it feels. Am I being paranoid and just need to wait for break in? The power has me the most worried right now as I love my car and don't want to go through the hassle of trying to replace it with another one. Or waiting for a new motor, etc.
Please help.

Re: New owner. Some ??'s
congrats on your new ride bro. It's fine. Prolly still in 'transportation mode' and needs to learn a spirited style of driving. This is a problem throughout break-in when the car tends to be 'grannied' some. Once it's broken in and you 'drive' it, the TCU and ECU will re-learn to your style of driving, and feel much better.
By the sounds of it, you're still on your first tank of 'dealership' gas? If so, that gas may be a little suspect. Make sure when you refill, you get good grade 91 octane (minimum).
In the meantime, read up on how to reset your ECU/TCU in our FAQ-DIY forum. *note*- an alternative method for now would be to disconnect the negative terminal of your battery for 12 hrs. to clear those memories. This way is more straightforward and easy, but results in the loss of radio presets, trip odometer mileages, and navi average mpg's.
Good luck with your new G, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.
There must be pics of the aluminum pedals in our 'Rides' section (in the left margin), or if you 'Search' for aluminum pedals, you'll find pics there too. The SEARCH is at the very top of the page, at the right end of the horizontal menu.
If you do an ECU/TCU reset, with either method, would you post with your results please. We need feedback, especially on the procedure in FAQ/DIY forum. G/Luck bro, happy G'ing

Re: New owner. Some ??'s
I found that my G drove more aggressively after the first tank. Actually whenever my cars went to the dealer and they would gas them up, they always came back feeling under powered. Both my cars run on 91 Octane, so I think the dealer puts in 87. I put 87 in my MR2 once (did not have a choice, out of gas, no 91 at the pump). The thing ran like a dog, but the MPG was great.

Wait until you get onto a few tanks of 91 and you should feel a difference. Also the ECU will still be learning (esp AT models) and so you might find subtle changes over time.

Have fun driving!!!

Mike.

Re: New owner. Some ??'s
The funny thing is, I was just about to post this problem. I just bought a G35 coupe and my brother has a G35 sedan for about 1 month now and you are right the sedan's pedel feels so light and it just goes and the coupe has more resistance and the "turbo" lag feel was worrying me, but I think all the comments were right because my coupe is still on it's first tank from the dealership which for sure it only 87 Octane. I will be getting new gas today and I heading over to Chevron for premium 91, hopefully it will make a difference. I love this forum because everyone is so helpful. Happy motoring.

Re: New owner. Some ??'s
If you're talking about a 6MT version (like mine), torque in 3rd and 4th gears from 2-4K RPMs will indeed feel pretty modest. Try it in 1st and 2nd for a better idea of that rev range, but don't worry - once it's broken in and you can redline it in every gear you'll find out what you really have.

The engine is a high torque-peak design, like Porsches and (mostly older) BMWs. The maximim torque is bewteen 4-6K RPMs, just above where you're able to go for now. The engine feels VERY strong in those ranges, and for the best acceleration you'll want to redline every gear (or nearly) so the next higher one is in the 4-5K RPM range when you drop into it. Do this, and the car will fly.

Just be patient, baby it through the (agonizingly long, I know) 1200 mile break-in, then have your fun with it. You'll be quite pleasantly surprised I think.

The car has no power in the 2-4k range. i remember when i was in my break in period i raced my cuz in an RSX keeping it below 4000 and i couldnt keep up with him. I even lost to a manual acura EL. Be patient and you'll see what the car can do once the break in is over.

Re: New owner. Some ??'s
I have a coupe with AT. In test driving the cars before purchase and when I had a sedan as a loaner, I did notice what you are talking about. The sedan seemed to rev up quicker. I just assumed that the "drive by wire" gas pedal on the sedan was more aggressive. The coupe seems to have less agressive gas pedal increments. But, that doesn't mean the sedan is more powerful or faster, it just means it has a touchier gas pedal!

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the info. I was getting worried.

That pic of the pedals are EXACTLY what I was thinking they were going to look like. Instead I got these pedals. ??? I don't know why they gave me these instead.

BTW, these pedals are HUGE. It's impossible to miss the darned things there literally as wide as my foot.

2) My car feels gutless on the low end

try turning off the vdc, i was embarrased a couple times when i floored it and expected my passenger to get planted in the seat. I turned off the the vdc and broke the tires loose with no problems :-)
