Breaking in
I just got my 6MT last week and have put 400 miles on it so far. I have tried to go easy on it but its so hard. Tonight I raced a G35 sedan and an A4 1.8t on the highway. I got up to 100-110 mph. Will this severely hurt my car? Is there a point to keep breaking it in now?

Re: Breaking in
It is tough. But remember the investment in break-in time you make now will pay off in the long run. Your car will be more powerful, and last longer.
Continue with your break-in until 1200 miles.

Re: Breaking in
It's not so much the speed but the revs that's the real issue. What RPMs did you take her up to in order to hit that speed? And yes of course it makes sense to still follow the break-in guidelines. One little bit of racing over 1200 miles will hardly matter.
The point of the break-in period is to let everything settle in. So if you gave her a bit of a shake up so be it. Go back to being gentle for awhile and all should be forgiven. You may have even cleared out the exhaust a bit.

Re: Breaking in
I took my car beyond 4000 rpm today and I only have 200 miles on it. When I used to sell acura's, I used to go on test drives and always put in into tiptronic and rev all the way up to the red line in every of the first 3 gears so that I can show how powerful back then the vtec tl's were, the tl's sold like hotcakes back then in 1999 thru 2001 before the Infiniti g35 took over. If we were not suppose to past beyond 4000 rpm within the first 1200 miles then I have ruined about 90 brand new acura tls within their brakein period.
Re: Breaking in
Break-in procedure is different for every engine. So, TL's break-in process might have been different. Having said that, I hope my sales men will never do that, regardless of what the break-in process is. That's one of the reasons I don't buy demo cars...
Re: Breaking in
when i first test drove the g35 coupe at the Advantage Infiniti dealership in Santa Monica they let me rev that baby up all the way up to the redline as did the salesmen himself when he was first showing me the car..

It's not so much the engine these days... but the transmission that needs to be babied in the beginning to break-in properly. Follow the rules, and the break-in time goes by pretty quickly. The best approach for the impatient is to just get out and drive the car around a bit for no apparent reason.

The VQ's a very robust engine so I doubt you'll lose much if anything from that brief stint. I just wouldn't recommend continually doing that or it may not keep its compression in its later years as well.
Re: Breaking in
Trust me, it won't hurt the car! It is a good idea to take it easy on the revs till about 1000k hit the odometer....more important is the brakes, take care to go easy on them during the break in period. I have owned many cars, and have never had a problem with break-in's except for cars built before 1990.....engines have come along way since then.
