Jacking Up using rear differential...

If you jack up the G using the rear differential will this damage anything? I know it sounds stupid but just curious. Thanks

It's a jack point per the service manual - so the answer is no.

Why is this a bad idea? The differential is mounted to the body. It's a solid jack point. As you jack up the differential, the wheels will become unsprung, just like jacking from the front (also independent) or side.

I didn't know it was an actual jack point on the service manual. Thanks
We seem to have a mixed opinion on this....

Is there a jack point for the front by any chance?

There is, and it's right about at the center of the front wheels. It's near where the undercover ends. There's a picture of the service manual jack points somewhere in one of these threads, can't seem to find it though. Once you see it, you'll know who to believe.

In the other thread, I wasn't suggesting that the diff was the jack point for the G35. For my E30 M3, it is an acceptable rear jack point. It is also almost 1000 lbs. lighter than the G.

That said, I just looked in the G35 Service Manual, vol. 1 and it shows for "Garage Jack Points" at the front - it is the center, just behind the cover as vjquan said and for the rear - the center of the diff housing - just like the M3. I would use hockey pucks to protect those metal bits when jacking.
For placing jack stands, it says to use a Kent Moore adapter similar to the Eastwoods one on the side rails (4 of them).

For pole lifts, use the adapter on the 4 side rail points.

I use the rear diff when I change out my Snows. It lifts the car fine, and is probably the soundest part to put the jack under with the exception of the jacking points, which of course would require a lift to raise both sides at the same time.

I don't want to start any $hit, but this is another example of someone giving bad advice by talking out of their ***. As everyone but one person mentioned, the rear differential is listed in the manual as a jack point. Infiniti specifically says its okay to lift the rear end up by the diff. Also, the rear diff is the jack point for pretty much every car out there. I have never heard of a car that couldn't be lifted by its rear differential irregardless of it being a live axel or an independent rear. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't give advice.

Yeah, it'll be easy to spot. It looks like a dogbone.

I called my local Infiniti dealership and asked a tech, and he said it is OK. I have jacked it up by the diff a few times now when changing my wheels.

I just found it in the service manual too. The final answer is YES, it is OK to jack up the car by the diff.
