I went 125 for a sustained 15 minutes legally....(sort of)

Well, last Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning (at 2:30am) my wife went into labor. She was in extreme pain which in her case means that the baby is ready to come out (she has a high pain tolerance and went a long time without pain medication on our other two kids deliveries.

Also, we live in Rockwall, Texas, but our hospital is in Dallas which is 30-25 minutes away.

Because of the fact that we were so far away, it required some Marior Andretti racing to get there before the baby the baby arrived. Lord knows, it didn't want to deliver it. I would have found a way to screw everything up.

Well, it was like a scene out of the Dukes of Hazard (without the jumping). I ran EVERY traffic light. Hit the highway at 125 and never slowed down except for the mixmaster ramp. My wife kept telling me to go faster, but even I have my limits.

Needless to say, we arrived at the hospital in 15 minutes. When the nurses got to the car, they were shocked that we 1)got there so fast and 2)the babies head was already trying to come out.

I'd like to thank Infiniti, Crawford Z, Motordyne, Bridgestone, JWT and Borla for making everything happen.

The funny thing is.......

When my wife and I were on I-30 crossing over Lake Ray Hubbard, a Honda Civic with a HUGE spoiler thought I was trying to race. When I passed him, I could tell he was trying his best to catch me, but he finally just gave up. I was annoyed about it at the time, but now I laugh about it.

Anway, baby and mother are fine. We had a little girl (7lbs. and 18 inches long).

Congratz! on your little girl!

Also FYI if your in a situation like this its often good to call the police, so they can at least escort you. It can get sort of chaotic if you get a cop after you that doesn't know why you are driving like that.

Dude, congrats mangs. Only if it had the shifter paddles, you would think it's an F1! I always wondered what would happened if a cop was chasing you and your wife is in labor....do you stop now or at the hospital?

I dont think that was to bright. You could have easily lost your family in a split second driving like that. Yeah why not call an ambulance????

Congrats!

Don't know about an ambulance. It might have taken too much time. I would however, called the CHP and ask for an escort.
If you would have gotten caught by a CHP, he would have started a pursuit, and since you were not "in a mood" to pull over, things could have turned ugly. When you have a CHP escort, you have a legal backup to run every red light and stop sign.

But nonetheless, congrats again! glad to hear everyone is doing fine!

Congrats Daddy .......Thank God you didn't have an accident or get stopped.
The suggestion for a police escort is a good one, but in a chaotic situation, you don't think straight.
HOpe all is well with Mom and daughter.

Believe me. I realize it was risky. Here's the thing though (this is something my wife and I know very well).....

a) I live at least 30-40 minutes away from the hospital.
b) My wife is one of those women who deliver VERY QUICKLY. With this baby, she only had to push ONCE. That's insane!
c) When we got to the hospital, the nurses let us know that she was already at a 10 (for those fathers out there, you will know what this means).
d) The head was already trying to come out when we arrived.
e) She delivered the baby 20 minutes later (only because we beat the doctor to the hospital and the nurses were trying to keep the baby from coming out).

Because of of all this is the reason I was speeding. We had NO time to wait for an ambulence. Zero time. That would have put her at risk waiting like that. Also, I could not wait for a cop to show up. They are like the cable company. They'll show up sometime between 8:00am-5:00pm (ok, their not that bad, but I still did not have time).

Again, I was driving 125, but I never swerved in and out of lane. I kept my hazards on the whole time and there was nobody (except for the moron in the Honda) on the road. If there was a scenerio that called for the speeding that I did, this was the time.

Even the doctor said "nice work".

Lastly, my wife and I felt completely safe in that car doing that speed. Kudos to the G35, because it felt rock solid at that speed.

I can assure you that I do not make a habit of doing speeds like this. I'm the guy that gets angry when I see people flying by me. I'm a father of three now, so I never take unnecessary risks. I trully don't believe I would have done this if I didn't feel I really needed to.
