Alternative Nav LCD Mods
Alternative Nav LCD Mods
I know a lot of you want to modify you nav lcd to play normal video input, i.e. using PS2. From what i gather, the mods will cost about 500 bills plus installation charges.
Now i got an alternative solution. I bought an Alpine TME-760. It is a 6.5 lcd screen. The location for this lcd is where the ashtray and hazard switch. I had the switch route to different place cause i know i won't be using it. the lcd cost me a little over 500 bill and installation, cost me about 2 hours. I think little over 600 or 700. I know it little pricey but if you think about the mods, it cost almost the same after install. Plus you might get some issue with the dealer if they found out that you modify the nav and might void the warranty. Anyway, i got the link of my car with the LCD screen. It is not pretty cause my digital camcorder sucks when taking still picture. You will need to create an account to see the picture. I know it is a little inconvenience but if someone here can host the picture for me, that would be great.

Re: Alternative Nav LCD Mods
hey that looks awesome. I've been looking into a flip up, but i think what you have done is sufficient and a lot cheaper. Do you think you can list your audio mods for me. Also, where did you relocate your hazard light?

Re: Alternative Nav LCD Mods
All the works were done at Al and Eds in Huntington Beach, California. I didn't perform the installation myself. I am clueless when come to install. Regarding the hazard switch, i will have that install where the factory nav dvd is at. That is also the location for my dva-7996.
Here is a detail installation of the system. I originally had an alpine cda 7995. But i replace it with a dva-7996 single dvd head unit. You notice the face is locate where the factory nav lcd. What the installer did was connect the face with the main unit via ribbon cable. Thus the main unit is sitting in the factory nav dvd, which is right above the glove compartment. The installer still have some work to perform in that area and once is all cover up, then next to the main unit will be the hazard switch.
Below is the list of my audio system.
Head unit
alpine dva-7996 with chg-s634 cd changer
Display
alpine tme-760 6.5 inch lcd
Digital processor
alpine pxa-h700...the unit is defective and getting replace or repair. The pxa come with a face plate that is the same size as the dva-7996. The face plate for the pxa will be locate in the arm rest. I will lose the cup holder inside there.
amps
phoenix gold ti 500.4
phoenix gold ti 1000.1
alpine 25 watts amp for center speaker
speaker
fronts - focal utopia 6.5 components
rear - focal utopia 5.25 components
sub - JL audio 10w6v2
alpine center speaker
Lastly, soon i will get the alpine dvd nav. Once i get that done, this car is capable of playing dolby digital and dts in surround mode. Also i am very much interest in multi channel music. That is one of the reason why i am doing this audio project. The other is Blose sucks, no high no low and it must be a bose or blose...heheheh..same thing. I did got my coupe with premium sound system but find the sound to be dull. BTW, the factory system is still intact. The reason for being is that when taking out the factory head unit, AC and some other feature will get screw up.
