Upset coupe owner with a couple problems...Suggestions??
Aluminum mag polish? Anyone else using this? I thought it would eat the clearcoat right off the rims. I used to use Meguire's Mag Polish on the old-school aluminum Enkei's on my '55 Bel Air, and that stuff was pretty abrasive.
What are you using to apply and remove the polish? Foreign-made "100% cotton" towels, USA-made and grown-in-the-USA 100% cotton towels, etc.?
Not trying to dismiss the issue, simply trying to eliminate any possibilities that you may have caused the damage. It's possible that your wheels may have been from a bad batch.

Well I have a couple problems, first my 19" wheels have the finish coming off of them on three of my four wheels. It's like it is just flaking off around the outer edges in certain places on each wheel. I just hadn't dealt with this because I have no time. Well two nights ago I'm driving and my low tire pressure sensor comes on. I pull over to look at my tire because my car is pulling....Get out to find my valve stem leaking out of the middle of it! I take off the valve cap and it just snaps in half. I was so pissed so i take it to the dealer in hopes that they will warranty it, well as it turns out they are trying to say I hit a curb and that is why it broke and they will not warranty it. And the finish on the wheels is their evidence saying things are embedded in the actual rim, I live in CO for gods sake, Its been through winter driving of course there are things in there! Anyway I am just upset with this car overall at this point, so many small problems I almost wish I had kept my VW. If anyone has any ideas on how to deal with either issue I am open to them. By the way the car only has 5600 miles on it if that is of any relevance.

I wouldn't say it is Infiniti that uses the clearcoat on their rims. Rays makes our rims so I doubt they use cheap clearcoat (well, at least they are the ones that makes the 19's). My only explanation is that you drove over something that is very corrosive. That's the only explanation. I can't think of anything else. I never heard of this happening. Like someone else said, maybe you got a bad batch *shrugs*.
Now, I'm not saying the dealer has any right for giving you a bad time but if they really haven't seen this happening and then someone comes in and there is no explanation, I can see why they wouldn't do anything for you.
Well, for me buying another Nissan, I would say Yes. I had a Maxima that I bought used in 93 (it was an 87) and whenever I go to them for anything, it wasn't that much of a hassle and they haven't given me any real grief about anything. However, I usually get the major things done from people I know at good discounts and I can trust them. As for the cars, I think they are built quite nicely for what you pay for. I for one am standing up for Infiniti. Although, they did take like forever to answer my email *note to self, don't ever send emails with complaints...Just call* but when they did call, they were quite adament on me getting my "issues" resolved. It was with the Head Unit and the stupid treble resetting issue. I've long since given up on it and will just go and get a new Head Unit (which I planned to do anyways).
Finally, If I had read this forum before I bought my car, I may have trepiditions on getting it. The problem with this forum sometimes is that it is filled with mostly about problems and complaints. It would make a prospective buyer nervous and maybe even look elsewhere for their cars (maybe not a bad thing since there are so many G's out there
hehe). I'm glad I didn't read this forum before hand (although I did do my research) because I'm quite happy with it so far.

As for the finish, well, sorry about what's happening. I don't have a suggestion there.
Curt
Did you happen to spray your wheel cleaner while the rim was hot? Some cleaners will damage the finish. This happened to me once. The dealer refinished the wheel. But it looked like crap. So I took it to a wheel repair guy i know and he did an awsome job.
And as for getting another nissan.... for the price i paid for my 04 G... I would have only gotten a loaded 325 at the BMW dealer.... hmmmmm 180hp? or 280 hp? I think the bimmer would have less rattels or "little" problems. But my borther has a 330 and it has bigger problems. AND.... you would get the same run around at the dealer because you bought their lowest model. "no sir... we don't have a loaner for you"
maybe because all the guys with 745 that have HUGE problems are driving around in your loaners! j/k
but you all know what i'm talking about....
BTW... don't even get me started on cheaper benz's... I'll never buy one of those again... FOR SURE.

If you're having problems, why not change dealerships? There's a reason why the Infiniti G35 has a +70% resale value after 3 years and no one else does. It's a great value. My friends 325i was nice, but he'd take my G sedan over it any day! Go JC!

Yeah I forgot to mention that our cars are still worth something after the warranty is finished.

I have an early 03 that acts like it(I wished I lemon lawed it). I am hoping that Toyata or Lexus put a 6 speed with the new 3.5 engine. That being said you know I want to be on your side but for one of the few times I would agree w/the dealer. I have ruined my old Maxima rims w/alumininum polish. It is too strong for our clear finished painted wheels. They take the same care as your paint finish, that stuff is too strong for them. Does it say use on any finish (clear coat should be mentioned) on the polish?
The broken valve stem almost has to be from something hitting it, most of the time a curb. It could have been something in the road. Or maybe the dealership did it before vehicle was delivered and it didn't become a problem til now. The service writer has heard this and seen it many times and most of the time somebody was trying to get away w/something, maybe not you but somebody else.
Best of luck, hope it works out.....
