Exhaust Note?

So yeah, where does the exhaust note go between 1600 and 2400 rpm? I love listening to the beautiful music coming from my exhaust but what is the physics behind it? Is there a reason that it is almost silent between those rpm ranges? Is there less pressure or something? Just curious.

Re: Exhaust Note?

I'm no expert, but this is my explanation (someone pls correct me if I'm wrong), at say lower RPM, there's less air going through the exhaust since there isn't as much air being pumped through the cylinders per unit time. At higher RPMs, there's more cycles per unit time where the fuel/air mixture combusts and thus more exhaust is produced and the increased air resonates through the exhaust.
