You can't really take one apart. You can break it, then glue it back together again. I have a feeling that is why clearcorners.com darkens them up, to make the seam along the edge less noticeable after they were split open.
If someone has cleanly taken them apart, I'd love to know. I made a complete hack job out of the spare one I had.

However, LEDs don't have a filament like light bulbs. They are very resistent to vibration, and usually last almost "forever". Chances are, they won't ever burn out in the vehicle's lifetime.

I went to an electronics school for two years, and we use to make all kinds of funky things with LEDs. As far as them burning out, the usual way they will go out is if they have too much current running through them or too much voltage across them.
