Thanks for the feedback everyone. On the whole, the performance difference seems to be minimal. With a 6MT you just get more control and driver involvement.

The poll is interesting. Seems like people with 6MT are 100% for them, but people with 5ATs are, roughly, 75% for them and 25% wish they had an MT.

The purchase is still a month off and dependant on a solid pay raise. I'll keep you guys posted on what I do. Hopefully I'll be seeing some of you guys at the NGC meets in the Spring. The skyline drive sounds awesome.

Newcomers to this thread, feel free to keep posting and voting on the poll. I will definitely keep reading everyone's opnions.

under ideal conditions, an auto can run just as fast as a manual

throw on some gears and a shift kit and torque converter and the auto smokes the manual

I'm happy with my manumatic. It's still fun to drive and although it's not quite like a real manual, shifting is satisfying enough.

GET THE 6MT
+1!

On the 6MT, it is true about people asking if you have a 6MT. I had a guy in a Jaguar say to me "Hey, nice car! Is that a 6MT?". I replied, "Yes, only way to go in a coupe". Hey then replies, "Nice! Yeah, I totally want a coupe in a 6MT too. I'm Jealous!".

Well, I can't say for sure but since I've been driving a MT for over 12 years and only 1 year of auto, I totally like the MT. There's nothing like driving in traffic and you need to pass and blipping your throttle, shift into 3rd or 4th gear and feel the car lurch forward and hearing the exhaust note. That is always a deal breaker for me.

best thing to do... get out and test drive both see what you like... MM might be ok for you, or you might feel you want more control and get the 6mt.

TEST DRIVE!!

I test drove both, but test drives aren't long enough. They both seemed like a lot of fun. I liked the MT because I like just knowing what gear I am in versus looking at the dash to remember in the 5AT mm. I did really like the conveniance of the 5AT though. More than I expected.

My grandfather is Canadian. He fought in WWII for the Canadian army. My dad was born in the US, but my grandfather was a very patriotic Canadian.

I was in the same position as you. I ended up getting 6MT and have no regrets. This car is so much fun with 6mt.

The choice is yours my friend. The auto with Gordgees grounding gear (10wire set) is fun in mm mode with the vdc off. I often times light up my tires just for the fun factor. I too wished for the 6mt, but the wife needs the auto. Even with that said, this car driven spiritedly with an auto is still much fun! My Dallas/Ft Worth traffic sux and the auto is nice. Good luck!

I feel I have to bring this thread back from the depths. I just turned my 6MT sedan in for service, so I am stuck with the 5at for the weekend (loaner). Yeah it's still fast, but GOD is it boring! This is the first time I've ever driven auto and stick versions of the same car and there is a big difference between the two. As far as driving excitement goes, the 5at is a big step down. But not everyone is a driving enthusiast and I guess autos are meant for those that aren't. A G35 5at is a pretty nice loaner though.

if it weren't for my wife...

When we were shopping, I tried so hard to convince my wife to let me "teach" her to drive manual. She absolutely refused. Since one of my errr, selling points in getting the 'G was her being able to borrow it too, I was forced to get the 5AT.

Surprisingly, the auto wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Yeah, the MM is fun but it still doesn't compare to the manual. Maybe by the time it's time to get my next car, she'll learn.

Good luck in your choice.

Untill its been a long day at work... your tired, and you really don't want to shift.

I had to drive my friends MT tib after basketball and work last night and I thanked the lord when I got back in my AT

If its your daily driver get an AT, If not get an MT for sure

I think that reason files under the "Why you SHOULD get a manual" category.
