LOL. we all learn from our mistakes so its all good.

Hmm,
1. One time when i was swapping out my clearance bulbs with some 6LED ones i orded online i tried to use the easier method by going through the hood. besides the fact that my hands were cut from attempting to do so the bulb slipped out my hands and fell down. now wasting that time through the hood i jacked my car up, turned tired and removed fender wall and search for the bulb. then i tried doing the normal way through the fender wall but when it was inserted into the strip it wouldn't tighten back up. ( while doing this the bulb itself was bigger then usual and it slipt out of the clearance strip holding ) the bulb fell into my headlight. i had to unscrew about everything on the headlight just to get that damn bulb out. i prob spent 2-3 hrs just to put 1 single bulb into the strip ( i have done this before numerous time with ease but this one time i just because lazy )

moral of the story is do it right, don't find "short-cuts" to do the task. DON"T BE LAZY and waste more time then if you do it right. !

I applaud smokedhen's tenacity to do it by himself. When you PM'ed me about changing tires, I kinda thought you were in for a bit of trouble, but you gotta learn sometime, so good for you. Sorry the stock tools didn't work out for you, I guess mine weren't over torqued so I was able to use the trunk tools.

I spent an hour or so hardwiring my radar detector last night, shouldnt have taken me so long but i didn't realize it did not take power/ground from the red and black wires like it should. So I'm sitting there scratching my head in 30 degree weather, until it dawned on me to check the plug that came with the detector first. Duh.

if i paid someone to do everything i've done i would probably be able to get a nice exhaust with the money

hmm stupid things i've done.. dropped a plastic plenum support (from motordyne's spacer + iso kit) down a runner in the manifold.. got it out with chopsticks (thank god im asian)

did an alignment.. forgot to put steering wheel lock.. dumb story -__- too much of a hurry ended up having to do it twice on the hunter rack

hmm its the 2nd time i've blacked out the tail lights.. 1st time.. just sprayed and gloss.. started peeling.. 2nd time.. sanded with 3,000grit sprayed.. sand blasted + clear coated from body shop.. its peeling again =\ *sigh* anyone have any ideas for this?

dropped washer between the two valve covers where the lower plenum sits.. had to go buy a magnet to get it out..

friend convinced me to drain oil into a cardboard box in a plastic trash bag on his g35 sedan.. lets just say the job took 15min for me and 40min clean up on him -__-

detailing a car with a injen cold air.. forgot to cover the driver side duct on the bumper.. ended up soaking his filter =P

forgot to connect PCV line into stock intake tube.. xP

hmm probably when I bought and installed a huge sound system, got bored with it, and not cant even sell it for half the price!

Changing the oil in the G can be a PIA because you need to pull the plastic cover off under the motor to get to the filter. I just used a Die Grinder and cut a hole in the plastic now I just jack up the car and change the oil in 10 minutes. All cars need a sealing washer on the on the drain plug either copper or plastic

2. Hardwiring the radar detect= to cutting into one of the homelink wires! I had to drive to CT to have a nice person from this board look at it.

When I hard wired my radar detector it was about a 15 minute job. First thing Dont Cut Any Wires. All you need to do is cut the plug off the end of the wire from the radar detector, identify positive and negative then back probe the wires on the plug on the back of the mirror. After that is done take two "straight pins" yes straight pins and solder the wires comming from the radar dectector and cover all but 3/8 of an inch with heat shrink tubing. Then insert the positive lead into the positive wire on the plug in the back of the mirror and the negative into the negative wire in the plug. I have used this method on several cars and it has never failed to work.

3. Swapping to winter setup. I thought I'd be slick to gather whatever info I needed to change the wheels. Something as simple as loosening the lug nuts got into the way of everything. It forced me to wait a day. Even as I was putting on the wheels, I forgot to put on the hub centric rings! I had to take two of the wheels back off. Getting the g up on the OEM jacks were a PITA.

All were a PITA for me but luckily I walked away with the following
Lessons Learned:

1. Always replace your drain plug gasket during every oil change to be on the safe side.

2. Always have sufficient wire cutting experience before cutting into the homelink wires!

3. Learn how to remove a tire! Never trust the tools that cheapasss nissan gives you! Listen to the elders!

4. A simple pipe = nut removal

going through all this trouble is regrettably the best learning experiences.

Did you guys ever F--k up something on the G? Share it so noobs like me won't make the same mistake!!!

believe it or not the underbody cover was actually designed so that u dont have to take off the cover to do an oil change.. i did lube at an infiniti dealer for a bit and the filter + drain plug both clear the hole.. now if u have a big arm a wrist its kinda hard doing it at home.. if ur under jacks a little trick u can do is get a straw and hold it up against the lip of the filter and housing to guild the oil out while u unscrew it.. sounds kinda weird but it works... then again i have a small hand and wrist compaired to some of the bigger guys

or you can take off the rear passenger side of the cover.. about 4 10mm bolts and stick ur hand through it with the oil filter wrench

Good for you! I applaud your effort(s) and success. With regard to our personal vehicles . . . There is no better feeling than doing the work ourselves. Yes, there is a learning curve . . . However, once you get started it gets easier.

As you get older....you realize how bad it sucks to have to do things over....


so I have become slow and methodical....and rarely mess things up by rushing and getting in a hurry.
