Take a look at the 180SX, from 1989 - 1990 it came with a CA18DET (1.8 liter motor) but then in 1991+ they put in a SR20DET (2.0 liter) but still kept it as the 180SX.

It's all about brand identity.
Honda did the same thing with the S2K when it changed displacement;
they kept the name.
BMW changes, but they still maintain brand ID because its a 3 digit numerical, 3xx, 5xx etc.
Sorry for the wait!!!
Sorry to keep you guys waiting but I hope these pics are worth it.
Not sure how the quality of the pics are, but will repost if they are poor. From what I was able to gather from the article the engine they are using in the '07 model with be what the new GT-R engine will be based on. Look for 3.7 liters with 330 - 340 horsepower. Max power will come on at 6500 rpms so I assume that the redline will be the same as the current engine. There is supposed to be a mock-up of this new model at the Detroit show next month, so those of you close should be able to drool all over it.
Not a large amount of other information in the article about the car, other than they are planning a release in September of '06.
Again sorry for the wait and enjoy the pics.

Thanks for the pics. Very nice. The styling shown is evolutionary which fits with the few company comments the press released. I'm not sure I can believe they'll produce it with the exposed rear bumper with exhaust outlets though.
The new power numbers you mention sound awesome.

It'll be interesting to see if that side line shows up on the final product...I think the headlights will be a little less aggressive...the exhaust looks strange coming out of the rear like that, looks to much like misplaced fog lights or something...

I can't see that rear staying like that.
I wouldn't be surprized if the over all shape was like the PSs though.
This is it!
This is what we have all been waiting for.
Less than a year to go, and we'll all be obsolete.
Better preorder soon! Or you'll find yourself waiting in the Walmart lines all over again! LOL!
Seriously though, if the new G even comes close to those pictures/stats then I'll be very happy. Those photos are sweet! Love those lines down the side of the car, (hope those make it into production!).
OMG, the G-basher and G-Haters will be out in full force this time around. Get ready for months and months of jealous, mean, bitter people puting the new G down.
I can hear it now . . . "UGLY",
Or "OH, what an ugly car, cannot believe they mutillated it like that . . ."
Or "330hp? yea right, the reality is . . ."
Or maybe it'll be: "OOOooo, love it except for . . . "
Or "Those ___ (insert your car part here), make the car look totally g*y".
Or my personal favorite: "Hmmm, think i'll keep my current G."
Oh yea, these people are on thier way! Cannot wait to laugh at them behind thier backs!
