So how can we get the '06 bluetooth feature in the recent years?

The 06 radio has the ports, wiring, and display necessary to accommodate the Bluetooth.

Parrot makes a far superior Bluetooth kit, and Motorola's isn't too bad either - my personal goal is to further integrate my current Parrot kit into the stereo system. It already Mutes the radio by powering it off, but it would be far better to integrate it. I should be able to have 'music on hold' while putting someone on hold or Mute as well.

I am hoping that part of his solution will be that we can install ANY Bluetooth kit - or certain types of configurations, as opposed to being stuck with the 06 console.

Nokia and SE work just as good. Keep in mind the bluetooth stack that is present in any mobile phone (most likely) is not their own branded product. Texas Instruments makes the most processors and arm chips for mobile phones so I'm sure they're outsourcing to other companies.

installed Parrot 3100k in 05 sedan
I was researching quite a bit before doing the install. It is possible but take some time to install.
I got myself a 05 instead of 06 because it is only a leased car and the only change between the two is the built in bluetooth.
Things needed:
1. Parrot bluetooth kit. $169
2. iso conversion wire harness $30
3. time - the G is a very well built car, it so well that every part is interlocked and it takes time to do each step in order.
This is not a perfect install because even if Parrot's volume is turned all the way down, it will still be quite loud but works great when you are driving with road noise at the background. Parrot will mute the head unit. You have to take your chances that the Bose amp can live with the higher than usual input from Parrot.
If you are interested in the full install, reply to this post. If there is enough interest then I'll try to dig up some info about the install. I have mine installed since Sept and it's been working very well with My Sony Ericsson z600. All phone directories are "object push" completely to Parrot, just need to record the voice commands.
