i was looking at the kill stories from bimmerforums.com and low and behold we have a g vs the m. tho he does not mention if it is a sedan or a coupe. does mention later on it is an automatic. but does the e36 m3 own the coupes? wat u guys think?

Not unless it is decently modded. Although, he did race an auto, so if he had a chip, then it is logical that he could have pulled.

Simple answer is yes. The M3 is quite a pocket rocket. I drove my friends M3 (2003) and it does not compare. Keep in mind that car is about 15-20K more than ours.

the e36 is the last gen bmw. im not talking about the current e46 m3s those are fast as crap. but im talking about the 99' and less m3s

A newer M3 will stomp a G35c. The newer M3's have 333 hp and are probably lighter cars. Although the G35c has 280 Hp, it is hindered by it's heavy curb weight. I believe that the older M3's, 1999 and earlier are slower, with much less hp than the newer ones. If that is correct, then the unmodded performance of an M3 is very much year dependent. But I doubt that there is much difference in the body styles that would make ID'ing the different years easy.

The guy asked about an E36 M3, not the current E46 M3.

Last year for the E36 M3 was 1999. Factory HP rating was 240. Without mods, a well driven E36 M3 could run about 14.0 in the quarter mile. 0-60 times were about 5.5

So I'd say that there's no way that the E36 ownz the G35c. Stock vs stock, it would be a drivers race.

BTW, I used to have a 99 M3 and I loved it. I'm hoping that I'll love my future G35c as much.

 

oh the E36, I should read more carefully.

Anyways with those numbers you posted, the E46 still has a slight advantage, but your right, it can't own a G.

I'm gonna have to say it's a drivers race on that one. I think the power to weight ratios on the E36 and G35 are just about the same and the M3's have always been fast performers. However I have raced an older E36 5spd from the light and pulled on him NP, it was fun. Peace.
