Weird engine noise...

For the first time tonight I drove my car on an extensive trip. And by extensive I mean, a total of 25 miles (Oooh! I know, big deal ) But nonetheless, being the first weekend I have the car I enjoyed it. Anyhow, as soon I got home and turned off the car, the engine made a weird noise as it turned off. Kinda like a "whirring" noise. I then turned back on and turned off to confirm and it did it again.

Any idea what I'm talking about, and if so, what could it be?

Thanks for all your help.

Welcome, gmoney1227, and congrats on the G...

Could the "whirring" be the electric rad fan (which can stay on after the ignition is turned off)?

welcome, bro. hope u enjoy the car as much as we all do.

the whirring is probably just the fan. if u notice, after high-reving and during shutdown, our cars sound like a jet engine cooling down...well at least i like to think so.

I love how all our members here think positivie. "Jet engine" noises and such.... PERFECT.

So, I'm going to monitor the situation and see if it continues to do it. With only 170 miles on my car, I seriously doubt anything serious.... but then again you never know.

Thanks again guys!

Could be the pressures in the a/c system equalizing.

do you have a 6MT ? cause my car does that too, but I've learned that if you push in the clutch as you shut off the car, it doesnt make the sound :P

Next time you hear that, pop the hood and check the fan(s)....I'll bet one or both will be on.
