replace or repaint scratched bumper
replace or repaint scratched bumper
hi all - my first post here after a couple of months of driving my 6MT coupe...lots of good info here. i couldn't believe it, some guy in a 3000GT backed out of a parking space right into my front bumper. only minor damage though- paint scrapes on the bumper and a scratch on the headlight cover [those things cost $442.48 bucks each according to the estimate by the way!]. anyhow, the insurance will only cover re-painting the bumper. my question, is it worth an extra $180 out of my own pocket to have the bumper completely replaced or do you think the paint job will hold up? i want it to look like new again.
thanks in advance.
on top of that, i was cruising ~70mph in the fast lane on the 101 approaching a guy doin ~45mph, so as i passed him on the right lane my speed hit 80- about three seconds later...busted. my first speeding ticket- for a few seconds of speeding! should have stayed home that weekend.
thanks in advance.

Re: replace or repaint scratched bumper
If it's just scratched, then sanding and painting will be fine, and you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. The body shop will have to remove it from the vehicle to paint it anyway, and they'll check it for any other damage. If it's cracked or split, then it needs to be replaced.
I feel for you. I was rearended by a Nissan pickup at a red light. $180 sounds cheap for a bumper, though.. $300 sounds closer to the cost.
