Problems Installing a short shifter on 6MT '03 G35

Anyone out there had experience installing a short shifter? I just bought the short shifter and I am installing it just as was directed on the installation manual on Rogue short shifter. I got the shifter console out and I am removing the factory shifter ****. The **** is turning counter clockwise (left) but he rubber underneath it is also turning. Is that normal? Is it really that tough and tight taking just the shifter out?

Thanks!
Albert

I had the same prob

I had the same problem with my 06. I just got the car and wanted to get rid of the “Big-Rig” shift ****. It made me fell like I was driving a MAC truck. I struggled to get it off so I posted a thread and someone came to my rescue with detailed instructions as well as pics. I think you can still find my original post—it wasn’t too long ago. It’s titled “NEW G35 Driver needs help.”

The trick is to clamp and hold the both of the shift-rod/shaft (after you removed the bottom console piece) as you turn the ****. For unknown reasons to me Nissan makes it so that the shift-rod/shaft rotates with the **** and can cause internal damage if you mess with it enough.

It’s easy once you know the trick!
