Gas Fill Up?

Sometime in the past I saw a post on this board about a problem filling up the gas tank on the G. I have had the same problem twice over the 4 months I have had the car, including just today.

What happens is that the gas pump clicks off way before the tank is anywhere near full, and keeps clicking off no matter how many times I restart it. I tried moving the nozzle out a little, and holding it with my hand, etc, but it kept clicking off.

Like I said, I have had this happen twice at two different gas stations that I normally go to. Except for these two occasions I have not had the problem any other time at the same gas stations. I inquired with the attendant today at the gas station as to whether there was any trouble with the pump; to my surprise he said they have noted that some Nissan cars have this happen!!

Anybody else notice this or know anything about it? ( I don't know what is worse, the current gas price or not being able to get in in the tank!!!!).

Re: Gas Fill Up?

I have had the problem infrequently as well. So far there is not much I have found in the way of a solution. The dealer has no fix for it and of course could not duplicate the problem. I read other posters here have had the issue too. Seems to be mostly in california. What most people say is that it's something to do with the pumps. Alot have complained about the pumps at the Costco gas stations which is the one I have the most issues with. Some others also said when the problem occurs pull the pump nozzle back out a little and sometimes that will help. Other than that so I have been SOL, sorry.

Re: Gas Fill Up?

this could happen either based on the angle of the nozzle or the force the gas comes out with. what i normally do upon filling the car is set the pump to the slowest fill flow. this way it doesn't splash back and prematurely set off the sensor.

Re: Gas Fill Up?

I have not had this problem on my G yet, but it happened a few times on my Maxima. If I just reset it (pulled nozzle out and back in, changing angles etc) it did the trick every time. My guess is that it has something to do with air pressure based on how nozzle is inserted and causes the sensors to think it's full.

Re: Gas Fill Up?

new jersey is a full service only state. however, i am extremely impatient. so i park, pop out of car, and start pumping. sometimes the guy gets there as i do and i let him do his job, though i might adjust the speed.

at certain highway stops, they don't even want you out of your car.

I hate NJ. The other day we were putting gas in a Range Rover, and they spilled gas all over his car. The guy was ready to kill them. They need to change the law to allow G owners to pump their own gas .

Re: Gas Fill Up?

This used to happen to me all the time in my Maxima... not anymore though. I believe it was just the stations I was going to. I would just leave the nozzle way out of my tank... and it usually worked. Or force it.
