This sucks...

I got my G35C monday a little over a week ago so me and my wife decide to go on a little roadtrip to DC. It was about 9pm so it was dark outside and I was going about 70mph in the fastlane on the freeway, when I see that there is a bricksized piece of concrete or something similar laying in the middle of the road. I tried to steer clear of it, but there was tons of traffic on one side and a sement divider on the other, so I was unable to steer clear. I hit it with both my front and my rear right wheels. My soul was aching! We stopped soon thereafter to see if there was any damage, but it seemed like we had been lucky. No visual damage.

Well, that was just to good to be true... Later on, after the car had sat overnight, I noticed that the right rear tire seemed low on air, and sure enough, when I measured there was only 8 lbs. in it. I filled it back up and checked it often and it seemed not to leak anymore. Just to be safe I decided to check the tire, so on Monday I took it off to check it. The tire seemed fine, but I found a nice sized dent on the inside edge of the rim. Tuesday I brought it in to the dealership to have them take a look at it. They did and it turns out the right rear tire and the rim absolutly needs to be replaced and the front right tire should also be replaced. (They were able to balance the front one, but it also has a dent in it...)

It seems like the insurance will cover it, and thank goodness we decided on $500 deductible. Two new rims and tires should be about $2200 plus tax, so paying for it out of pocket is really not an option. I just hope my insurance premium will not go up, at least not much... Does anyone know how that works?

Re: This sucks...

for that kind of money, why not get a whole new set of wheels and tires...

your premium increases depend on your driving record, the amount claimed, and your insurance company... i got into an accident right after i renewed my ins contract.. so, i had 6 months before a rate increase was imminent.. i just got my renewal a few weeks ago.. my 6 month premium went up by $50 bucks.. so that's less than $10 per month.. considering i'm under 25, already have a low premium, was with the ins. company for only 6 months before the accident, and the $3000 claim i made, an increase of $50 wasn't all that bad. anyway, i wouldn't worry too much about it. that's why you got insurance... they make their money from ppl who never make claims but always pay their premiums.. you don't really get your money's worth until you get into an accident, unfortunately. good luck.

Re: This sucks...

The notion that every little claim on your insurance will cause your rates to go way up just isn't true unless you have a really lousy insurance company. We had two collision claims last year, one very minor and one more substantial. Our rates didn't go up at all when we got the renewal notice this year.

MrE:
Yeah, I was pissed and disapointed at first, but it is funny how time puts things in perspective. It could have been so much worse... a tire could have blown out and caused an accident, the "brick" could have been knocked up into the car and damaged something else etc.
It still sucks though...

Have you looked into just getting the wheel fixed rather than replaced? I've had bent rims in teh past fixed for about $100. The only drawback is that the wheel is somewhat weaker than the original.

Re: This sucks...

That's a really good idea to get a whole new set. Many people on here have done that before with bumpers and other things. Turn something great out of something $hitty. Don't repair, upgrade!

I think I'm gonna go hit a curb or something.

Re: This sucks...

Many members on this and Fresh Alloy forums are selling all 4 of their rims/tires for about $1500-2000. I suggest you check this before you buy from the dealer.

My car has been in the shop for 3 weeks now because some punk decided to cut down a stop sign AND the "stop ahead" sign at the crest of a hill. I feel your pain.

Re: This sucks...

I ran over a newly killed deer at 80mph at 3am in the morning on the way to the casino. It was obviously laying down in the road and I hit it dead on between the front wheels. There was no damage to the body at all but I had a TON of deer hanging off the bottom of the car and COOKING on all the hot metal. Needless to say I was pissed and grossed out by the smell and the removal process. Oh yeah, and this all happened on the 8th day I owned the car. I also feel your pain.

Holy crap... my sister hit an alread-dead deer as well, many years ago in Michigan. I had no idea these dead deer were so malicious... That utility pole that hit me jumped out of in front of me, too. Damned inanimate objects.

Re: This sucks...

wait...can't you keep a deer if you hit it and kill it (or if someone else happened to kill it)? i mean, i haven't had venison in a while, if i came across a freshly killed deer, that [censored] would be attached to my bumper wrapped in plastic and dragged home :P

Re: This sucks...

I actually got to see the dead bloodied mess go rolling off the road after it was done leaving large pieces of itself singed to my under carriage. I was nauseated (sp?) by the whole incident and the smell that ensued really was enough to make me not want to drive the car anymore. The biggest thing I kept fearing while I was looking for a good spot to pull over and check for damage was that one of its hooves might have kicked up and dented my back bumper. Thankfully there was no cosmetic damage at all.

Re: This sucks...

All things considered, it appears that you totally lucked out....especially with the minimal damage. A few years ago, I was driving my sister's ride. I was on a highway...when all of a sudden I see movement on the side... it's a deer crossing the f-ing highway! I swerve to avoid it (successfully)....but not so successfully swerving to avoid it's partner. In the end, the passenger side view mirror needed to be replaced as well as some dent removal on the front and rear quarter panels and the door panels.

Surprisingly my sis was okay with it...but she'll never let me live it down.
