new tires

hi,
replaced the stock potenzas with michelin pilot sports, got rid of the loud noise at low speeds, that im happy with.

i was driving to indiana and you know those open roads in indiana and pennsylvania, so i tested out the tires at higher speeds, but the car got shaky at over 100mph.. is it the alignment, i was told by the place that installed my tires that the alignment doesnt change when new tires get put on. my car has never shook at high speeds, ever over 100

thanks for any feedback

The wheel shop that mounted your tires obviously did a bad job when they balanced the tires on the wheels. Bring it back and have them do it right!

Ditto...

You may need a "road force" type balance. That's where they apply weight to the tread as they spin it.

New tire balance........

Michelin tires are great and you shouldn't feel vibration
thru the stearing wheel. Drive on them for a week or
so then take them back. You want the job done right.
It's possible, the balance machine needs to be
recalibrated. LOL

I agree, I think its a balancing issue. The alignment only affects a pull from either side. Good luck

Agree with all balance comments above. To note, if you do not have them rebalanced, you can, in short order, induce improper wear on the tires, making matters worse- a terrible waste of money if that happens.

By Potenza's I'm assuming you have an 05 with 19s. If you haven't done an alignment, and you've shredded the OE tires, that would suggest one is likely due, but I would not think it the source of the problem. Worth doing only since you have just spend good coin on a new set of tires, and no sense in chancing a new set of rubber to a bad alignment. I choose to get an alignment and balance done every spring after the roads here are fixed up, and whenever I put on new rubber, as a matter of course.

Even if you don't throw a weight during your enjoyment of a set of tires, as they wear, balance will need to be adjusted. I normally do this around the half life point, if not in the spring.

Given your experience with the shop that did the tire install, however, I think I'd be looking elsewhere for the alignment.

Since we can't rotate the very expensive FM-VQ/planet interfaces at the corners, these are some things we can do to get the most out of them.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Derek
