Shifting points for straight line speed

Conditions:
For 5AT, 280HP VQ35DE engines.
No mods.
VDC off
Dry

As brought up in another thread, I was wondering what is the best shifting points through each gear for the best straight line speed. I used to this "kissing" the redline is the best method for our G, but that thread had made me think other wise.

Speed gurus please chime in, thanks for all!

automatic mode? Theres not much more you can do with the manumatic mode, than just taking it a little further..

In my experience, shifting in MM mode is worth about one tenth, or about one car length in the quarter. Possibly two, if you are requiring a shift into fourth in auto mode.

dont use manumatic mode in a race. leave it in "D" as it will shift at the correct times better, but if your racing from a rolling start drop it into 2nd or 3rd depending on your speed and work it from there when hitting just a line over redline. dont forget we have lag on our upshifts so hit the shifter a little earlier.

leaving it a D will slow u down. ive tried it and in MM mode the car feels faster and u can also shift at 7 instead of 6800 thats what i do.

leaving it in D definitely slows one down, because it takes more time for the tranny to respond to the gas pedal and downshift accordingly.

I was just at the track yesterday soooo..........

Left in auto mode I ran a 14.559@96.77, the car did shift to 4th before I hit the traps.

Manumatic shifting next run I got 14.503@97.61, I shifted about 200-300 rpm higher than auto mode does, and went thru the traps in 3rd gear at about 6400 rpm.

When I turn on the juice I leave it in auto mode, best run with 100 shot was 13.409@107.18

so patton, from your experience, you're implying that there is negligiable difference in straight lines using auto and manumatic mode?

I didn't imply anything

I just listed my results and how I achieved them

There may be a larger difference between Auto and Manumatic for someone who doesn't have a Groundinggear kit. I also expect to pick up a couple of tenths once I get the valve-body upgrade done. The tranny struggles a bit with the 100-shot of nitrous.

i dont like to redline so we are a bit different. and from a dead stop i brake torque to about 2500 so i dont really lag.

In my experience

The car shifts a lot more aggressive in MM, even if I just leave it in 4th gear on MM and I'm not necessarily doing the shifting myself from 1-5.

so in the end, can someone give some more specific suggestions as to where are the ideal shift points?

So MM mode is slightly faster in the 1/4?
