Question Quick Tire Pressure Sensor Qs.

Can you clarify for me....

1)If i understand it correctly the sensor is attached to the valve stem inside the tire? can it be removed as part of/with the valve stem?

2) Does it send a wireless signal to the car/ecu if to low? Or how does it comunicate w/ the car?

3) So as long as your tire profile is not TOO low/small they can be moved to any tire/wheel combo?

i haven't taken my tires off yet but anyone that has would be able to answer your question pretty easily.

usually the sensors are transmitted using RF, i hear the new tire pressure sensors use bluetooth (same as the wireless tech used on 06 for handsfree and intelligent key). bluetooth is RF anyway, so no surprise there.

back to your original question, if our G's use the valve clamp, i'm pretty sure it can be moved to aftermarket rims (and it should be pretty small to fit low profile rims). there are quite a few ppl on the board who have swapped out their rims so they should be able to provide some insight.

if there is no valve monitor there, then the G prob uses the ABS/traction control sensors to calculate yaw rates, then tire pressure deltas (but i heard these systems aren't that realiable......)

i think the tire pressure sensors are mounted onto the wheel using a strap that wraps around the wheel...pretty sure, but i could be wrong.

The valve stem is part of the sensor. There's small module on the inside of the wheel that lays flat against the wheel surface.
If you remove the module, the valve stem comes with it.

The sensors transmit RF to the keyless entry door receiver, same as your key fob does. The sensors just transmit signals indicating actual pressures.
The signals are processed by the BCM (Body Control Module), which stores the preset minimum tire pressures and triggers the warning light and tone.
If you go to a different wheel/tire combo that runs a different tire pressure, you need to get somebody with a CONSULT-II to reset the minimum
pressure in the BCM. IIRC, the choices are 27, 29, 31 and 33 psi.

They don't fit all aftermarket wheels, it depends on the contours of the inside of the wheel and the valve placement.
You need to check with the vendor or manufacturer before you buy the wheels.
