I'm officially in the club!

Picked up my new 2004 Twilight Blue 6MT today. Dawned, clayed and CG'ed. Tired but happy. Will post pics soon. Love the car as you might guess.

Congrats on the new ride and welcome to the club. Clay already huh? and I though I was bad with the constant cleaning. Good luck with her!

Re: I'm officially in the club!

I clayed the car after all the posts here said that even tho it's new, there are contaminents on the paint from shipping. It felt pretty smooth before, but I just thought if I was going to put Crystal Guard (also found on this site) then I should clay it first. Thanks for the good wishes. [PS clay bar feels like modeling clay and it's sticky and you wet your car with a lubricant and lightly drag the clay across the paint to pick up any tiny contaminants prior to sealing.]

I've used Zimol in the past, but gave it up cause it was kind of hard to work with. I've been using Meguire's 3 step process. Is using this clay bar the same as the stripping step, you know the 1st step in "strip, polish, wax?" Is it easy to use?

no, stripping would be the "Dawn" part. Washing your car with Dawn brand dishwasher soap will strip the car of any waxes

Welcome to the Club LI!

I'm going the CG route myself on my Coupe (Black). It looks pretty damn great; two coats on it about a week apart. I'll give periodic updates on how Crystal Guard is holding up. I was a long-time zealot on the Maguires 3-stage process for many years (expensive, time consuming, and a lot of work). We'll see how it compares.
