stick?? automatic??

Re: stick?? automatic??
As far as finite #s, I don't have any track results of my own for the two different trannys for the coupe, so anything I could offer would be conjecture. As for why so many people have the stick? The Coupe tends to bring out people who want the G as a more sporty, less 'practical use' car. Those who buy with that frame of mind tend to go all-out in that direction, which would lead you to the sportier-feeling, more connected-to-the-road tranny.
I personally love driving a stick, and have a car just for the sporty side of me, but my G is an auto, since it's my daily driver and a lot of what I do is road-tripping, interstate driving, or in traffic. Do you have a G? If not, are you getting one? Aaaand if so, which tranny do you prefer?

Re: stick?? automatic??
we had this huge dicussion not long ago... BTW last time i checked, 72% were AT and 28% were MT... and i think only reason you see more stick in this forum is there is a lot more MT guys around this sites than AT drivers... MT drivers are more active than AT drivers i guess...

Re: stick?? automatic??
yeah it's probably because most people on forums are younger and enthusiasts so they prefer driving stick but in reality the majority of coupe owners do drive the AT. They don't even make G's available in MT in close to the same numbers as automatics. Don't feel too bad about getting an auto even though most on the forums will give you a hard time. The performance between the 2 are pretty darn close compared to other cars. The RX8 auto for example only makes 192 hp and goes 0 - 60 in like 8.9 seconds or something like that while their manual is 230 hp and goes 0 - 60 in the mid to low 6's. BIG difference there... while the G MT does high 5's to low 6's on average with MT and Low to Mid 6's on average for AT not much difference there.

About .3 seconds in the quarter-mile, if everyone's been honest. But the main reason to buy stick is for fun. The G35 isn't a sensible base car for the track or dragstrip. A 6MT driver could list for you all the reasons manual is better, but by the time he gets through saying the word "First," the 5ATx will be .5 seconds ahead.

Re: stick?? automatic??
Get this car in what you prefer. If you check out dealer inventories, it looks like for every 10 to 12 G35 Coupes on the lot, 2 or 3 of them are manual...so they are hard to come by.
I have the 6MT and I love it. The clutch takes a bit of muscle, but it is very precise and the gearbox is a dream....very short throws and clear shift gates.
