got bored and painted the engine cover. I used Duplicolor Ford red #1605... walmart 3 bucks. Obviously it does not match exactly, but i think it still looks better than the stock black.

Its the heavy duty stuff used for actual engine parts and is good for up to 500 degrees. Didn't do the battery cover, wanted to see how the eng cover looked first.

Did they have a red just a tad darker? Looks good and I am sure the battery cover will look good painted too! Did you line the inside of the cover with tape when you painted or is there something else to line the cover with?

 

unfortunately, thats the darkest red they had. I used newspaper and masking tape.

I think it looks good. I believe the problem is the type of color itself. Ford's "Red" always looks more orange than pure red. I have never liked Ford's color palette.

Nevertheless, I think it's a great idea and looks good. This give me an idea of using one of those new Krylon paints that supposedly bonds to plastic with no surface prep...I forgot the name though.

yeah, the available colors for high temp paint are fairly limited. Duplicolor does have a couple other reds available, but they are even lighter/more orange than the one I used.

Just fyi, i did not prime the cover... the instructions on the paint did not say to prime... Just make sure the surface is clean. It seemed to adhere very well to the plastic. I used 4 coats on it.

yes, i believe i saw blue(s) there that are in the ballpark of the CB.

The #1608 high heat actually looks closer than the color I used, but it was not available locally. I may try to order a can to check it out.

For people with blue... i found these pictures of the duplicolor "metalcast" blue... looks like it would go good with CB. The metalcast is also a high temp resistant paint.

Nice job on the Red engine cover. I know it must of been time consuming taping it off and all. I was giong to paint mine but instead chickened out and ended up cutting the top portion out to better show the Injen Intake, then I added some Carbon-Fiber to dress it up a little...
