4Door seems faster than my coupe
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
I've had a loaner for a few days now. It's a four door. I commented to a friend that it feels faster, then saw your posting today. I've got to try resetting the memory on mine. There is no doubt that it is slower and less responsive. I do a lot of driving in freeway traffic, so maybe it has "taught" my car to be less responsive. How can I avoid this? I've had several problems with my coupe in less than a year of ownership. I had a '00 Maxima and didn't have a single problem the entire time I owned the car. What gives?
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
I thought I was going crazy! I also had a loaner sedan automatic and thought it had more "kick in the butt" power compared to my 6MT coupe. very odd...
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
The torque converter helps off-the-line power in an automatic. You'd probably notice the same in the 5AT coupe. Thing is, the transmission is parasitic from there so the 6MT is faster as you row through the gears.
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
Won't this ECU reset flood the engine?
In the Automobile magazine review of the G and BMW, the G's rolling time totally sucked compared to the BMW. Maybe that is just the way our coupes gears and tranny's are setup(flaw in my opinion)

Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
AUtomobile mag's test was done in top gear, which totally disdvantaged the G's 6 spd vs the BMW's 5-spd. Horrible test, and a lot of people mistakenly take it to mean a rolling test.
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
true true, what a bunch of clowns, throw a 6th gear in the Bimmer (theoretically) and watch the times then, considering the low power and torque at that point you know the answer.
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
Hey Guys...my wife has the A/T sedan and I have the 6mt coupe...I have generally also noticed the same things....the coupe is a hard driver....you really have to work at it, especially the clutch and shifter. Jumping into the A/T sedan feels more refined and easier to drive....JMO. As far as acceleration and push you back in the seat torque comparision, I thinks it's subjective. Your body is more relaxed driving the A/T sedan, but brother when your tightened up holding the wheel, legging the clutch and rowing that shifter in the 6mt coupe....you just don't feel the push back. My coupe rides hard....she's stiff and overall your really close to nature, but when you wind up those gears....it's a rocket!!!
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
i have a sedan loaner as we speak and it does roll out. i have the 6mt and it rolls also but, i have new respect for the sedan. i have to go to baltimore in a bit and i'll be able to see it how it rolls on an hour and a half trip in the rain.

*tear*
I'm so glad that some people in the coupes might actually wave at me and respect my sedan somewhat It's definitely got some get-up and go! I drove the coupe before I bought the sedan-- I just wanted a little more practicality, and to be 100% honest, I couldn't tell a hugely discernable difference between the two other than the sedan's slightly smoother ride and torque in low gear.
That coupe is one bada$$ looking car, though. I think I just liked the practicality and elegance of a black sedan... but damn, if I could have a sweet TB coupe sitting in my garage, I definitely wouldn't mind.

Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
I have the G35 Coupe, and to tell you the truth, it was the G35 Sedan that caught my eye first. I always respected the G35 Sedan....260hp 3.5L V6, RWD, sport suspension, sport brakes, really luxurious/sporty inside and out...what's not to like???
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
Both of them are classy, sporty cars... Love em.
I was at a gas station today with my newly-CG'ed car, and a guy walks out and comes up to me and said "You know, I really wish I'd gotten your car. Excellent choice... mine's a little boring". I thanked him, etc. and he walked away... then got in his C320 and drove away. First time I've ever heard a Merc driver say that...
So, did anyone else in here consider the sedan before going with the coupe? I was 50/50 with it until I really thought about what I needed at this point...

Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
I had my share of seat time in loaner sedans. (don't ask)
IMO, the sedan feels faster than the coupe in both low and mid-range acceleration. Hammering the gas on a freeway onramp in the sedan is simply UNREAL. In my 6MT coupe, the driver has to concentrate on shifting and clutch so maybe it takes some acceleration sensation away. That being said, my stop watch says the coupe is still faster even with my somewhat sloppy shifting.
Now the handling of the coupe and sedan are on different levels. I'd probably be shot for saying this, but the sedan seems to be more nimble for regular driving and oversteers easier. (4 door is more drift happy than the coupe) Always had respect for the sedan, but us Californians need our daily dose of eye candy~

Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
Like some mentioned here, I think it's shifting vs. not shifting. With the sedan, you kick back and feel/enjoy all that power going through the gears with no effort on your part. With the 6mt Coupe you're preoccupied with shifting and most time your not trying to put up 0-60 record times.
Re: 4Door seems faster than my coupe
Does that mean a 5AT coupe should feel faster than a 5AT sedan? Has anyone test drove the new AWD sedan? I bet that thing must be a monster...eat the coupes heh.
