Help with whistling noise.
Help with whistling noise.
Hi, and thanks for any help.
Owner of a 2005 G35 couple with manual transimission, 20k miles, and no mods whatsoever. Recently I started noticing a whistling noise around my driver's side window when i reach approximately 50 mph. The window is completely up, and as I speed up, it gets worse. Took it to the dealer to see if something could be done, and they told me that this was a common issue, and that the cause was due to the wind flowing over the driver-side mirror. I scratched my head at this explanation because no such noise can be heard on the passenger window. Anybodyelse experienced this? if so, any solution to fix it? Or is the dealership being lazy?

Same for me. 2004 Coupe AT with same mileage. The sound comes and goes, depending on how windy it is. Every time I bring it to the dealer, the whistling isn't there. For me, it sounds like the air is being blown by the weather stripping. I've given up at this point.
This happens when I drive on the freeway around 60...I'm pretty sure it is the driver side mirror - I'm wondering if its flowing in the crack between the mirror and the arm that sticks out from the car -
ive heard of this before, and have it ever so slightly.
i think that if we want a definitive answer we have to figure it out ourselves.
can you guys check the place where your window glass meets the rubber?
there should be little to no rubber showing when you look at the car from a few feet away.
on the pax side of my car there's no rubber. on the drivers side, theres rubber visible under the pillar. im thinking that the glass isnt quite going all the way up. maybe the glass is also tilted forward ever so slightly, creating more gap on the trailing edge of the glass than their should be.
another thing i've been looking at was the plastic trim on the top of the roof, in between the pillar/protector and the roof. is it completely seated for you guys, with no gaps? it should be like this |U| where the U is a rubber/plastic piece and the | | are the parts of the car. they should be even. if it looks like this: | u | then im thinking air might get in there...
just some thoughts..

I got the same problem:
The first time I complain about it, Infiniti's dealer replaced the window seal; the noise came back a few months later.
The second time they replaced the door seal, added some tape under the pilar finisher and the noise went away.

Mine just started doing this the same day I picked it up from having the window motor TSB done. Starts at 60 mph, and its not the mirror its the seal around the door somewhere at least in mine. I called them same day and told them about it and made my next appt. Love the warranty, use it and abuse it.
