Want to go from 5AT to 6MT..
Sup guys, I'm thinking about switching from a 5AT coupe to a 6MT coupe. What kind of hit do you think i'd take? I have a fully loaded CB/Graphite 5AT coupe with 1200 miles on it. If i were to switch to a 2003 MT coupe do you think i'd lose a lot of money? I would be satisfied with just the aero package, i'm not crazy about the premium or navi. What do you guys think?

I dunno man unless your extra wealthy. Did you finance or Lease. If you leased you might be able to finagle something with very little down. My friend has done it several times with BMW since he leases with them frequently. If you bought the car outright you are probably looking at several thousand dollars loss in my opinion. I would just enjoy what you have for a while unless you can pull a quick one. Just my thoughts, Peace.

Wow, I had no idea it would be that much. My dealer was selling demo cars with like 500 miles on them for like 200 bux off, so I thought I would still get a lot for my car. Thanks guys.

dealers will buy for cheap and sell for expensive...
i think dealers will buy your car around 29k-30k... and if you buy 34k 6mt.. you do the math how much you will burn... just enjoy what you have for a while..

I am in the same boat, but I have decided to hold off on the option till Next year because.
1) I've already tried doing it, It is around a 9K hit.. Let's say the dealer gives you about 30k for the car.. You lose about 5k since a new 6MT is around 35 bone stock, then there is the luxury tax and license, another 3k. Figure you lose the payments already made on the car.. another 1-2K!
It's just not worth it, unless you score big in Vegas.. HEHE, my advice is to wait about one year. The biggest hit is taken in the beginning so if you keep your car for another year, it is going to retain close to its same value. So enjoy the coupe for a year, then next year, 6MT..
I made the mistake too, don't worry.. That is my plan though, we will see what happens.

You could always try to sell your G privately instead of trading it in to your dealer. The dealer will make a profit off your trade-in and make a profit on the car they sell to you.
So if you really have your heart set on a 6MT G coupe the best thing is to sell your car privately. I’ve seen people selling their G coupes for $34K to $37K used on AutoTrader.com and Ebaymotors.com. And since you have a loaded G coupe, I think you could get at least $35K for it. But it could take several weeks to sell maybe months.
But the smart financially way is to wait at least two years before selling your G, IMO.

The dealer needs to make money, it's his livelihood. If he buys your car for what he can sell it for then he loses money. Your best bet is to sell your car privately and buy a used 6mt (if you can find one near you).
You could also just keep your A/T and convince yourself that the 6mt is not for you. All that shifting, burnouts in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (sometimes), etc. What a hassle. =)

So the MSRP of your car was $38185, give or take. The invoice price was $33794--but don't forget that dealer holdback is 3% so the true cost to the dealer of that car was only $32780.
So if your car were brand new, under the very best scenario the dealer would only buy it from you for $32780. But your car isn't new. It's used. Assuming that the dealer is able to sell your car for $36000 (which if you look at eBay prices is quite optimistic) then he's crazy to offer you more than about $30000 for your vehicle.
You can try to sell the car yourself... But I know someone in my area who has a DG/G 6MT coupe with 6500 miles for sale with premium, navi, and wheel packages along with aluminum pedals and a nice tint job. The car is in mint condition but he's having a challenge finding any takers at $31000.
