SDG I did the exact same thing you did a little while back.
Took out the 06 6MT and spent a few hours talking about it with delaers and inspecting it, and I walked of the lot unimpressed. The sublte tiny changes are just that, changes, better for some people, but just different to me. Nothing jumped out at me as an improvement enough for me to consider it an upgrade. (other than model year)
On a personal note...the car just doesnt look the same without the Brembos, they are the first thing that I look at when I walk up to the car, they are the first thing that other look at when you roll up, they are distinctive, and I really loev the look of them. So I would consider that part of the exchange a downgrade. (again my opinion)
I think I can wait till 08/09 when they release the Gen 2. The trip to the dealer only made me feel lucky to have bought when i did or I would have the 05, and wish I had bought the 04.
Again 2 each their own, this is just my opinion. (I am trying to dodge the flaming if you havnt noticed)

I am thinking about picking up 06 Coupe 6MT end of this month...so no more Brembo brakes on 06?

Anyone else not impressed with the 06's? Just got back from the dealer test driving the 06 Coupe. I have convinced myself that I need to get rid of the 03 and upgrade to a new model and heard rumors of good lease deals. I also read a couple reviews of people who loved them. Test drove a new DG/Blk 6MT with only 100 or so miles on it. I was not impressed. Also the lease deal rumors are untrue, there won't be any really good deals until end of summer.

The interior styling doesn't look newer or nicer to me. The floor mats were a plain black on top of same color carpet. In my 03 the black interior comes with charcoal carpets with embroidered edges and Infiniti logos. the aluminum wrapped interior is sub-par and they still have the same shabby bose stereo and display. Every piece of crap rental car I drive has a nicer display on the radio than a 35-40k Infiniti. The orange thread on the steering wheel...wow, yeah..it was uh, neat I guess....it matches the stereo. Must say the nav was vastly improved. Better styling and display with more options, easier to use, loved it. It goes in and out now with the push of a button which really sounds more impressive than it is. The old way it pops up quicker and when you go to put it away, tucks away a little faster by hand. Either way it was overall better for sure. The great new NAV only made the stereo look even more outdated and out of place. I guess it doesn't look so bad if you leave it OFF. Hey Infiniti-- INTEGRATE THE NAV WITH THE STEREO!! -- The blue tooth is cool, didn't get to try it out but if it works at all then I would love it. The memory seat is long overdue and it's about time for sure. The seat also goes back into place without having to readjust the recline every time. The seatbelt problem still sucks. I like the feel and look of having it attached to the seat but then getting people in/out of the back was just as bad or actually worse than before. Looks better, function same or worse.

Exterior it looks a lot the same. I like the new headlights with the clear turn signal cover instead of amber and I like the dual xenon instead of having a halogen foglight which was/is lame. I don't like the strip on the headlights of the 06. It's all silver covered instead of being able to see the lens/light.(hard to explain) I just hate the taillights, sorry I know some of you are big fans. I think the round silver/clear reverse light next to all that red looks good, don't like the new reverse slits. The trunk button is a cool feature (I guess, always got along fine without it) but too bad they couldn't hide it better. It doesn't match and makes the back not symmetrical. They also pulled the taillights up tighter towards the corners of the back end and I think they looked better before. You really have to look at old and new side by side to see this.

Driving, could definitely tell that the gearing has shifted to the high end of the rpm band a bit, which I like in theory but it just felt sluggish to me. The gas mileage is not improved, figured if you moved the powerband up you might get better mileage at reasonable speeds but apparently not. Now to be fair the car was BRAND NEW, just off the truck and the tranny/motor, suspension, everything felt very stiff. There was even some hesitation or the car 'bogged down' once or twice but I know that the car will loosen up with a little time and miles. Also didn't want to push it too much, it only had 100 miles on it. The suspension was really tight and stiff, not much roll and it felt solid.

Overall it was easy to walk away and get back in my car. I wanted an 06 thinking I could be happy with it bone-stock but now I see I would have to make a few mods. I haven't tried out the AT yet but I will. You can get the suspension package on the autos with 19" wheels which wasn't offered in prior years. If I have to pimp it out I can buy the auto for cheaper and use the extra cash to hook it up right. Also able to get the intelligent key, not offered on the 6MT. Decisions decisions, wait for 2007 model most likely!

I'm still confused about this so if anyone can shed some light I would appreciate it as would others I'm sure.

07 Sedan - November 2006
07 Coupe - ?
08 Coupe - Spring/Summer 2007
08 Sedan - Probably November 2007

Is that correct? So if he waits for a 08 Coupe, it will just be another year?

True no more Brembos available from OEM Infinitits after 04.
Speculation on when the 08 coupe is coming out is tightly guarded, some time in 07 it should be out...no one really knows if it will be spring or fall.

And what makes the interior of the 05/06 KILL the 03/04??
We all know the minor changes that they made, but which are that significant to you that make it that much better?

Are you serious? The 05-06 interior is 10X better than the 03-04. The gauges, are all LED. The nice aluminum dash (not ****ty creaky plastic) , the better positioning of the clock, the leather door armrests, higher quality leather seats, the aluminum interior door handles. Come on now...

Ugh. The ugly GOLD brembos! I would have like brembos on the '05, but why oh why the ugly GOLD color? That's an eyesore IMHO. Red, Silver or even Black would have been better. The brembos were a nice selling point but it does little for everyday driving so I opted for the interior and engine improvements. Also, the cost of maintaining the Brembo's are so much more then the non-bembos too. Anyways, I just love the look of the BBKs that I would have switched out the brakes the first chance I get (oooh, Red Stoptechs ).

Anyways, there are other changes in the engine dept. too on the 05-06's. I can't think of them right now, but someone else here can chime in on that. With regards to the floor mats, that has to be some mistake. Mine was the same color as my carpet but had stitching and the Mt. Fuji logo (same as my trunk mat too). As for the stereo, I already have the DD conversion so I'm just deciding on the stereo. The stock stereo is NEVER a deciding factor for me for a car. It's usually the first thing I would get rid of.

Well, like everyone else is saying, the interior is a matter of opinion so what ever floats your boat. Wait until the new 08 model comes out and get it then. I would never trade for a same model unless it was redesign significantly. Wasn't there a post of someone who traded their 03 for an 06 recently and had the exact opposite of this post?

G35 Coupe

03=04(console),
05(new interior, hp, wheels),
06=07(new aero, rear active steering).

What you want to do is wait for the 08. It'll be a sleek techno lady killer. I anticipate it will handle worse than the first gen G35 Coupe though. The market trend seems to be building more powerful, more plush, more luxurious and bigger car with every new model. Honestly what I want is a lightweight Nissan RWD car that replace the Silvia and has the killer styling the original G35 Coupe possess.
