VTC pulley cover (long)

Here's the deal. I was in an accident not too long ago and The oil sensor on the VTC pulley cover was cracked. Not knowing this I had a big oil leak for several weeks then took it back to the body shop. The sensor comes with the whole cover and can not be purchased alone. The body shop "fixed" it by taking the sensor off the new cover and putting it on the old cover. I picked the car up Monday and went to school only to end up at the parking lot with the car over heating and oil all over the egine compartment. Back to the body shop... the old cover with the new sensor craked fom the inside out! The body shop mechanic said I was "hotrodding" the car. I never drive the car hard. He said it was due to high rpms. I think the integrity of the old cover went to shames! Any input from you mechaniclly gifted people? any input would help considering I could not stand someone telling me I am at fault. Would the VTC pulley cover be first to go if soeones was running their car hard? Thanks
