Brakes and tires?
Iam having my brake pads replaced right now, the car has 12,xxx miles on it.
My mechanic is telling me to stop beating on my car, and that the pads should last alot longer than 12k miles, is that true?
Also he says that he can tell im beating on the car cuz the tires are bald at 12k miles, i told him bout this fourm and that most people are only getting around 10-15k on these tires and he told me that is impossable, they have to last longer, also is this true?
Sorry guys i just gotta vent im soo pissed at the guy
(P.S. he is a local mechanic not a infiniti mechanic)

It sounds like your mechanic is used to working on broadmarket vehicles where people demand a tire that has a higher treadwear performance. Any time you have a high performance vehicle with high performance tires on it they are going to wear out faster. 12K does sound a little low to me, but it really depends on how hard you drive the vehicle as well as the alignment settings and tire pressures.

Just replaced my rear tires at 17K, and they were really bald. My brakes have lasted really well, though. But mine has the Brembos.
Like other people said, the G is a performance car with performance brakes and tires. They don't last as long as Camry tires.

Sounds like you beat the brakes up pretty bad. As far as the tires, you sacrifice tread life for better performance. Same may go for brakes but 12K is definately a little too early. Warped rotors I can understand but the brake pads definately took a beating.
I changed my brakes at around 30k, the fronts were completely gone and the rear didn't look like it wore at all. My tires are at 32k right now and they are slicks, needs to be replaced ASAP. This is on a 2004 AT coupe with 18" wheel package.
I took my stock tires off at around 17,000 miles. The rears had like 15-25% tread life and the fronts had about 35-40%.
I'm at ~18,000 miles now.
My brakes are fine as well. Replacing brake pads at 12,000 miles is pretty early.. you really must brake hard a lot!

I think it varies from driver to driver. My first set of tires lasted 15k & my second set lasted about 25k. My first set of brakes lasted 15k & my second set only 9k, third set 12k. After that, I changed my pads to Hawk HPS so far I've put over 20k. When I put new tires on recently, I checked my pads, they were still good.
