Yakima ski snowboard roof rack locked and loaded!! Bring on the snow!!!
With the winter season just around the corner, I cant wait to hit the slopes, Just installed my yakima rack with the newly updated Fatcat 6 ski/ 4snowboard racks, using the 06' Q35 clips recommended in another post. The fit is pretty snug as long as you install them properly.
The key to making the Q towers stable is to make sure they're spread as far apart so that the clip that goes under the door frame is at least 90 degrees vertical. Any less and the clip will slide off since the door lip is angled. Just remember to check to make sure the clip doesnt slide off as stated in the instruction manual. Test drove at 70+ miles no problem. The Fatcat is much quietter and aerodynamic than the powderhounds.
Enjoy!

You're taking your G into the slops? I have a few trips to Tahoe/Reno planned this winter, and bringing my G never even crossed. I guess I could consider it...just freaks me out driving a RWD car through that weather on those roads.
wooord just what i've been searching for myself. I'm trying to look for a snowboard rack for my G but couldnt find any. you purchase the yakima Q towers from rackattack.com site? and how'd you know that it would fit the g35?

Boards are pretty secure, the rack doesnt budge as long as its installed properly. I'll emphasize again, if the clips arent vertically positioned (at least 90 degrees) they can slip off if you pull really hard on the clips. I tested this myself. Once the towers are placed far enough apart (approx outside the black rain gutter strips) to allow the clips to be positioned vertically, they're secure and cant be pulled off. Bought the gear from REI.com They recently had 20% off all their yakima gear but unfortunately the sale ended. sorry.
-Q35 clips usually run about $35 a pair, you need 2 sets, ($70)
-48" cross bars are $65 reg
-Q towers are $150 reg
-Fatcat 6 is $199 reg but i bought mine used on craigslist for $100.
Id suggest checking ebay or craigslist if you dont mind buying used stuff.

yea, i understand the concern about RWD on snow but the places i plan on going are locally here in socal where the snow is usally man made unfortunately.
Hmm... Not sure about 2-3 bikes, even with my rack on my old car (volvo 850) i was hesitant on putting multiple bikes on. Id say at least 1 maybe 2bikes at most would be fine.

how is the gas millage on the highway with the racks, how much drag are you creating...?
thats what im concern about
i have a lexus rx400h with baby ski racks, should i just save the money and drive that or get the rack for my G, a concern regarding the gas milage, will it be expensive in the long run...
Reason i want on the G is because i am more comfortable in the G. the lexus is my mom's car, feel like a grandma in that ****
Thanks!

I know this is old thread bump but I just spoke to someone at rack attack and he said q7 clips for front and q127 for rear... This is 10 mins after I ordered q35 on ebay... Did the part numbers change or maybe they have better fitting clips?
