Tail lights painted black... INSIDE

I don't think this has been done before and it was a nice pain in the a$$ to do. Dremeled the back of the tails out by the edges, and took them apart. Painted the inside black along with a few clear pieces. Btw, our turning signal lens are orange inside (wtf). Then to put them back together, I used long strips of rubber sealant in the cracks so there will be no condensation, and then epoxy to hold it all together. I'm guessing a total of 8+ hours of work.

Btw, I like 03/04 tail lights, so please don't tell me I should have gotten the 05/06. I prefer the lines over the circles

BEFORE

AFTER

I went from stock -> film tint -> paint tint -> stock -> painted inside, and I like it like this the most.

I don’t think its ever been done because no one has wanted to cut the lenses open... I'm interested to see how they hold up - because the next "want" mod I am thinking of is having sequential LEDs blink.

As for the paint - looks good, takes the overly bright red out... but I prefer darker look (more smoked).

i don't think the smoke from the inside has been done before but someone has done some sort of black lining on the inside of the reverse lights. I don't remember if they did the tail lights as well.

Very subtle, I like it

That looks really good. I've been hesitant to get the overlays since they look a little tacked on. But that looks subtle enough to pass for OEM.

What kind of paint did you use?

They look very nice. If you sealed them good then I doubt you will have any problems. Congratulations on a very unique and subtle mod.

I never looked into it seriously but I have thought about opening mine up and installing a 2nd set of LEDs so that I could have a blinking brake light for a blinker, FX style. I know this is done or in progress, I just thought a 2nd set of LEDs would be more reliable and easier for someone like myself with limited electrical skills. But alas I was too afraid to crack them open and I could not figure out how to add the 2nd set of LEDs. I am very envious of your skills.

BTW your coupe front end conversion with flared rear fenders is just unbelievable, in a good way. Keep up the good work and nice posts with pics for us to envy.
