However, read, as has been suggested above. When you understand the concept of what a transmission actually does and how the clutch is related you need to practice, practice. That practice need's to be with someone who is proficient a manual. It's really tough learning on your own.

just switch the shifter over and hit up to shift up and down to shift down... play with it and you'll pick it up. just dont shift back and forth too quickly.. if you want to shift from 5 to 3 you hit the shifter down twice and the other way around is vice versa... the tranny does the work for you. and you only have 5 gears if you're an auto not 6
