delay shifting into drive

Occasionally there is a delay when shifting into drive when
I first get into the car and start it up. Say I am parked, I put the car in R without a problem but when I put the car in D, there is a couple second delay. This only seems to happen when the car is cold and not all the time. Has anyone els experienced this problem?

VAowner.

Re: delay shifting into drive

I have the same "problem." I pull out into the street in reverse with no delay. However, when I put it into drive, it takes a while to "grab" and sometimes it seems to engage half way, disengage, and then engage completely.

Mine seems to do this too- have either of you taken it to the dealer to get it fixed? If so, what was wrong?

Re: delay shifting into drive

I have this issue but it is reverse that is the delayed gear not drive. Who knows what goes on in these trannys.
