wrecked my '04 G35x:epilogue
Here's what happened back in February:

On Monday I picked up my baby from the shop. Yes, as several posters mentioned here, I tried to work with the insurance people to get it totaled. Those details are far too boring and tedious to put here, but suffice it to say that I spent far too much time writing emails and making calls, to no avail.
$17k later, I must say that I'm totally shocked at how well it drives. Yes, yes, I realize it's too soon to really tell, but man I'm telling you they did a helluva job with this. I was ready to nitpick this thing to death, and for sure there are a few things here + there, but as far as major things that I was concerned about--wind noise, rattles, overspray, BODY GAPS--so far do not appear to be an issue. The guy was very proud of the work that his shop did, pointing out all of the "little things" that he made sure his boys paid attention to. Apparently the frame was not moved at all (he showed me the laser measurements), so everything was just cosmetic stuff. I guess that's one good thing about SUV's: their bumpers hit you nice + high, so if you get hit in the trunk it's OK. Otherwise, death on wheels. But I digress....
The love affair is rekindled, I'm happy to be driving again. "Now I remember why I bought this car.... " Sweet.
