03 Sedan Manual Shift

When I shift from D to Manual mode the tranny automatically jumps shifts to 4rth gear regardless of my speed. I recently had an 04.5 loaner and it would shift into the correct gear. It appears than in manual mode the car shift up and down through the gears up to the selected gear. So if I have it in 3rd, it goes back abd fourth between 2nd and 3rd, but never any higher.

Anyone aware of any transmission changes from 03.5 to 04.5? I like being able to shift the gears myself when it is in manual mode.

Just kick the transmission to let it know that you mean business. That may help.

If you are too lazy, here is the breakdown: 03-04 on sedan = top gear selector, 04.5 to current on sedan = manumatic, all coupes = manumatic.

I have the sports package (03.5) - it always goes to 4th on switch to manumatic.

You don't need to break. The trans will not shift if your RPM is too high. I always use manual mode so I don't know what my mileage would be like in auto.

Anyone know if this can be changed. Anyone succesfully modify their sedan tranny to operate like the coupe tranny. The manual shift on the sedan is horrible, its shifting is unperdictable. Anyone know if it simply a programming change or is it a different tranny altogether.

I have an '05 and mine does not always default to 4th. It will go immediately into 2nd or 3rd if appropriate (I usually still have to downshift 1 gear but that's just because I drive like a bat out of hell). It will not, however, immediately go into fifth, it always goes to 4th if I am traveling at a high speed (i.e. 60 to 80 mph) even if the car was in 5th while driving in automatic mode.
