Chirping tires w/ AT

Was wondering if sedan owners w/ AT can spin their tires from a stop w/out torque braking? I just finished my break-in and have tried to spin from a stop by almost flooring the gas pedal- no luck.

Thanks

Re: Spinning tires w/ AT

OH Yeah! I can spin my tires pulling out on the street almost
any time if I get on the accelerator hard. On accasion I can
chirp the tires from first to second. Of course the accelerator
is on the floor! But of course I am making a turn onto the
street. Going in a straight line is a different story. I havn't
noticed any chirping tires going straight from a dead stop.
I think I need a supercharger?

Since you finished the break-in, you might want to do an ECU
reset. You grannied the G during break-in, didn't you?

*phew* I thought you were going to ask about putting spinning rims on a 5AT G. I was going to have to slap you if that were the case... they're not my cup of tea But hey, to each his own!

I was chirping my tires quite a bit recently, but it was actually because of a tranny problem that I just got fixed But yes, I can do it on purpose... I'm used to the FX AWD launch now after driving it for a week, so I did today as I was pulling out of the dealership

Re: Spinning tires w/ AT

I just changed my post to chirping instead of "spinning" - don't want to confuse anyone

If I'm making a turn, I can chirp them pretty easy, but its the straight line that I'm having a hard time.

Regarding the ECU issue, I don't know if it will help. I just wrote this on FA forum regarding this issue:

Up until yesterday I was ready to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery. I read a few posts and thought that since I just finished my break-in, this would be a perfect time to do it. I also called my local Infiniti service department and spoke with a technician with 20 years of experience. He never heard of disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU and told me to bring it in for them to test it using their computers.

At the same time, my friend w/ a Jetta has noticed that his car (after 2 years of ownership) has been sluggish. I told him about the ECU reset, which I was about to do myself (before I spoke with Infiniti technician). According to him, he noticed a difference and is happy w/the results.

Can it be that the difference people has been noticing after "resetting their ECU" is a placebo effect?

Re: Spinning tires w/ AT

I would not be suprised if it is a Placebo effect with the ECU reset. What someone needs to do with an AT car is baby the car for a month or so. Go out test the acceleration times preferably at a track. Then reset the ECU and "train" the car to be aggresive. Then go back to the track and test again to see the results. I would be very interested to see the results.

I might try this with my Acura TL, if I notice a difference then it is a placebo effect for me, and if I don't, well then I was not outwardly influenced

I really don't think it is a placebo effect. I disconnected the
wife's Maxima battery overnight and now it shifts at redline.
Prior to the battery disconnect, the Max would shift way
below redline under HARD acceleration. I'v noticed an
improvement with the G everytime I have done the reset.

Yea I can spin the tires from a stop in my 5AT coupe almost all the time if I want to. But thats after all of the mods I have, stock I couldnt do it on a straightaway. It could also be the fact that I have 12k miles on my tires, but they look and feel almost new.

Re: Spinning tires w/ AT

I don't have an AT, but I always thought that most transmissions constantly 'learn' according to the driver's input. If that's the case why would a reset be necessary? I know that my mom's 740iL seems to drive differently after my kid borther (lead foot) drives it. If the G doesn't do the same, that sound like a design flaw.

Unless every takeoff is full throttle, the ECU learns that
you are "grannying" the car.
