Painting front bumper for cheap!

Hey guys, I live in Montreal and there's a body shop near where I live who quoted 179$ CAN to repaint my whole front bumper because of rocks and chipping damage. That sounds kinda low and suspicious for me...what do you guys think?

some shops do a really ****ty job thus give cheap prices... make sure its a real paint job, and that they use a clear coat and all... one of my friends got his car painted for cheap like that, they just sprayed it and polished it, no clear coat, nothing... the paint lasted less than a year... started peeling off left and right...

That's a low price. I just got a quote of $300 US for a base color coat and three clear coats for a new front bumper.

Paint quality is an important issue and you want a very chip resistant paint (like Imron), especially for a front bumper.

The guys may do great work, just make sure you have all the information first.

rollers? i think for that price they just splash a bucket of paint on and you're good to go, i beleive then use the tilt the bucket of paint and swing your arm technique, very expensive in the states!

A guy here that has had the #1 rated shop for the last 10 years charged me $600 to fix and paint the bumper and hood (it had a dent the size of a Quarter). He also fixed all the other rock chips all over the body.

That is a low price but it may be just fine. I have a friend that has his own shop. He did my hood with the design over the CF, six coats of clear and painted my UTR grille for $100 and a 12-pack.

Base coat + Clear Coat

When I asked how he was going to paint it, he said he would sand it first, apply the base coat then clear coat then maybe buff if necessary.

To be honest, the place looks like a decent auto shop, has 4 garages and even car jobs in progress when I looked around. The reason It may be so cheap is probably the ghetto location it's at.

As far as I'm concerned, I'll give it a try and let you guys know about the outcome with pictures too.

BTW, 179$ is approx 160$ US.

Tell him you'll pay a little extra for more layers of clear coat. I think it's worth it.
