I had a three year old 4dr Chevy HD pick up. They wanted to give me $9800. I sold it private party for $14000. Nuff said.

ya they are trying to hit you for a cycle on that one..Knowing car dealers, they try to make a min of 3k mark up..i would not take less than 17k on trade for it..
i just looked it up on wholesale local auto auction and the g35 4drs are bringing 16.5-18k depending on mileage that was 2003 cars..hopefully this makes u feel better!! that car will go for 18500.00 retail

I'm helped in that I have a friend who wants to buy my car from me when I'm ready to sell, in a few more years when it depreciates more. Assuming he follows through, it would mean I don't have to worry about 2 negotiations at the same time when I buy the replacement. Worry that, if the tradein seems good, that they are just making it up on the sale price of the new car. Or vice versa.

Never trust KBB. It is a dealer supported company therefore the company's interest lies in the dealer, not the private party. KBB is usually 10-20% low. Never trust it.
