I just put on the Falken ZE512's on my 17" sport wheels in size 235/45. Profile def looks smaller and they feel SO much better than the stock Bridgestone EL42's.

Fabulous wet weather traction (better than dry, I sometimes feel), but they wear very quickly (15,000 - 17,000 miles seems to be about the norm with spirited driving) too. Slight bulge at 35 PSI .

My $0.02
I hope you meant 235/50/17, 'cause the size you quoted would be about three and a half inches too tall.
My $0.021 (CAN).

All of you with 235/50/17s.... have you noticed heavier streering or poor cornering or cars lack of willingness to turn??? I think you can possible loose some of get up and go qualities... but not sure as Im on stock 17s.

Keep in mind that with a 235/50R17, the tire is significantly wider and you'll loose some steering response and the tires will bulge a bit. The stock Bridgestone EL42s are terribly narrow for a 215/55R17. Their width is a 8.2" and have a contact patch of a 6.9". On the otherhand, the Avon M550 215/55R17 is 8.9" wide and has a 7.6" contact patch. The Avon M550 235/50R17 is 9.5" wide and an 8.6" contact patch when mounted on a 7.5" rim. When you mount the 235/50R17 on a 17X7, there will more bulge.
Man you were right on here with regard to the tire width. My 215-55-17 replacement Yoko Advans are visibly much wider. So glad I stayed with 215's and they look so much better. Some of it may be the way the tires are made to seat the rim. The turanzas were not flush to match the rim width the way the yokos are. Great info

When I say "look better" I mean better than the same spec terrible Turanzas previously on my car.
