Sedan S2000 Projector Retrofit Complete

Well I started Thursday after work and just got done. I figure I have about 15 hours in them including the mod, paint, ect.

S2000 Projectors
Lexus GS430 Shrouds
Color Matched Paint
AAC Demon Eyes (had these before)
PIAA 2500K H4 Fog/HI bulbs (no pics of those yet)

Here are some of the pics I took. I will get some better ones of the final results later this weekend.

awesome job! I can't believe it only took you 15hrs. hot! Did you paint the housing yourself?

jimmyc13 09-02-2006 08:03 AM

Wow...looks amazing...you are definitely quite the craftsman! And damn, you west coasters are up early this AM! :)

ttrank 09-02-2006 08:04 AM

Yes I did everything myself. There is a sherwin williams auto paint store a few miles from my house and they matched the factory color in a couple of spray cans for me.

There are a few flaws here and there but for a 1st time job I am very happy with the results (and I'm picky).

Nah, I got done and am quite excited so I have not gone to bed yet. Decided to have a couple IPA's first (beer for the non-beer drinkers here). ;)

Why cant I see the pics?

ttrank 09-02-2006 08:08 AM

No idea.

They came up in your reply?..?

jimmyc13 09-02-2006 08:13 AM

Ha....so the 12:30 on the stove clock was about 4.5 hrs. ago for you. I'm kind of the same way....you get excited about getting something done & just stick with it, because you know you wouldn't be able to sleep otherwise. I'm a fan of IPA ;).

So now that this mod is done...what's in store for you next?

ttrank 09-02-2006 08:18 AM

It was just too close to stop. I finished @3:30 and have been up since.

Next I am going to do a set of hood struts, an engine damper, brake master cylinder brace, and SPC rear camber arms. I have all the parts in my garage right now.

Maybe I should get started..... nah time for bed.

khsonic03 09-02-2006 08:59 AM

Looks awesome! Great job.

da mayor 09-02-2006 10:05 AM

driguez 09-02-2006 11:14 AM

hotness! more pics please :D

E_K 09-02-2006 11:38 AM

I'm impressed. I didn't think you would be able to fit the S2000 ones in there.

My first retrofit on the G35 took 20 hours. The current one took 3 months. This other one I'm working one has taken 6 months, with 5.5 months of procrastination.

Post some beam pics from 25-100 feet away.

chinaman_87 09-02-2006 01:33 PM

congrats ttrank. i was wondering how did you mount your projectors?

driguez 09-02-2006 01:56 PM

yes, more info please :D this might be another project for me, you said that you used OEM paint, what did you use to paint them??

IvoryGT 09-02-2006 02:11 PM

very nice, DIY is more fun than having someone else do it for sure. good job.

khsonic03 09-02-2006 02:28 PM

WOOT! Just ordered my TSX projectors from ebay. $160 shipped. Not too bad. Now I just have to find some shrouds!

chinaman_87 09-02-2006 02:37 PM

are you 8viator? khsonic?

khsonic03 09-02-2006 02:47 PM

No, why do you ask? Were you outbid or something? I bought those via Buy it Now. I was bidding on some others, but someone else won those.

badtziscool 09-02-2006 02:48 PM

All those pics and NO night shots?!?!?! S2k projectors and not cutoff pics?!?!?!

How dare you!!!

chinaman_87 09-02-2006 02:49 PM

Yeah they did it right there in about 10 minutes. It was $20 a can. I ended up using one can per side.

Not bad. I took them apart before to do the demon eyes. Just take your time. The oven trick works great.

I was able to use one existing hole on the projector and made a couple others. Then lots of JB Weld finished them off.

ttrank 09-02-2006 03:03 PM

If I had this to do again I would say to use the TSX projectors since they are much easier to mount and close to the same quality. I wanted the best ones I could get so I also got the pain in the a$$ that comes with them.

machavez702 09-02-2006 05:10 PM

Outstanding! I'm looking foward to seeing some more pics.

DieselX 09-02-2006 05:16 PM

vodkarocket 09-02-2006 08:10 PM

Awesome work, you really don't stop. I'm looking forward to seeing your pics of these, and your review of the engine dampener and master cylinder brace. :D

RAYNYC 09-02-2006 08:42 PM

just curious , do you think these retrofits will be sturdy enough for say city driving in nyc? i want to do this bu im so worried the first huge pothole i hit the lights will break..
and yes you cant avoid eventually hitting one in the city.
it looks really good btw.

I think these are extremely sturdy. I mounted them with multiple bolts and a bunch of JB weld. I would be shocked if they ever come loose.

Thanks vodka :D

I am going to try and do the hood struts and engine brace next week. I don't have the master cylinder brace yet but if it gets here next week then that will go on too.

ttrank 09-02-2006 10:29 PM

Sorry for not posting any night shots. I am out of town now and don't have my carmera. I'll try to take a couple with my phone.

Foo_G 09-02-2006 11:12 PM

nice oven and the lights looks nice too :). But can you give another shot of the oven with a cake or turkey in it B)

2004v35 09-03-2006 12:25 AM

whats the oven trick?
does it loosen the adhesive holding the headlight together?

driguez 09-03-2006 12:27 AM

yup, it softens the glue so you can pry them open

az1anbeethoven 09-03-2006 01:59 AM

dayn!!!~~~crazy!! good sh1t bro!

Yes, preheat your oven to ~190-200 and put your headlights in for 12-15 minutes. They will open up much easier. It also helps to have a razor blade to cut the glue as you go.

Then do the same thing to put them back together when you are done.

The S2000 projectors are considered among most to be the best low beam projectors made. They have the sharpest cut-off, great color and are very bright. The best bi-xenon (hi/low) are from the Acura TL. I kept the G35 ballasts and changed my bulbs to 5000k Phillips D2S (from Phillips 6000k D2R). They are like daylight on the ground in front of me now; quite a bit brighter than my stock set-up. Plus now I don't get flashed by oncoming traffic because of the cut-off.
