extended warranty after the fact

So I bring my 03 w/ 32K miles in for the fuel line recall this morning, and I find out from the service advisor that my warranty has just expired (8/30). I'm kinda in shock because I figured there would have been some notice in the mail trying to entice me to purchase the extended warranty. Now admittedly I don't drive the car a whole lot and I dont see that changing, but I was thinking about giving it to my parents. Now I've been pretty diligent about bringing it in for all TSBs recalls and stuff, So I'm hoping that I'm ok in that respect.

For those of you who are probably more experienced than I with some of this,

1)Am I now screwed If I try to purchase an extended warranty (dealer or otherwise)? I know it's probably a moot point, but I like having that peace of mind.

2)For those of you w/ 03s and expired warranties, have you had any major costs when it came to service/repair?

3)Are TSBs still covered, or am I SOL on that one? (The service advisor wasn't sure)

if tsb's are the recall notices then you should be fine because my warranty expired in may i believe? and i still got the fuel line replaced for free. the thing is i'm still getting notices in the mail telling me to buy extended warranty from them. I told them about the creaking in the front driverside, they told me it was the compression rod. they quoted me 614.00 bucks just to replace it. hope this helps.

Sometimes you can buy an extended warranty from your bank if that is who you have the loan from. Or contact Infiniti and ask them about extended warranties. Recalls are always free, No matter how many miles or how long out of the warranty you are.

This is not entirely correct. TSB's are Technical Service Bulliteins, meaning they had identified a common problem and have a fix available. This does not imply that they are obligated to address the problem beyond the term of your warranty.
Recalls are something different where they identify a problem and are willing to fix it regardless of warranty status.

If this is an actuall recall, I would expect them to cover it (if its a legitimate safety issue, I really hope they do.)
If its only a TSB, this one could go either way. They don't really have to, but may still do it.. Depending on the relationship you have with the service advisor(s.)

Also, depending on where you are, if there is another Infiniti dealership in the area, check with them.

hey thx for the help guys. they did take care of the recall no probs. i asked for some clarification on the TSBs, and the answer was that they are not obligated to cover TSBs since they are typically covered while you are under your basic warranty.

that being said, it looks like i lucked out in that i'm still under 40K. i can still purchase the extended warranties. so now it's off to see what people are offerin (chad, kenny u guys see this? )

Don`t know why people think TSBs are recalls. A TSB can be issued to correct a spelling error or part number, etc, in the service lit. If work is required by a TSB, it will state within the TSB who is to pay, or if it is a warrenty item.

A different point: Many of these letters we get to buy extended warrenty are from other companies. Not all of them are reputable, so beware. I`m not a believer in ext warrenties, but if I were to buy one, I would only buy it from Infiniti. They will be here next year, and the dealers are bound to honor it.
