Y pipe for sedan

Sorry if this is a stupid question but is the Y pipe for the 05 sedan and 05 coupes the same are is the coupes better or can I get one aftermarket with better flow than both? I am going to be using it with the HKS rear section and maybe a glass pack in place of the resonator are no resonator at all. What do you guys think about that?

thanks

I doubt a different Y (coupe or aftermarket) will give you noticeable flow difference unless you get CATS along with them.

Thanks so my best bet is to leave my Y pipe and get some hi flow cats.

There are no dynos out there suggesting that aftermarket y-pipes do anything for these cars. Same goes for test pipes and aftermarket cats. I have yet to see one dyno showing TP or cats gaining anymore than 2whp. If there dynos are out there, I sure haven't seen them and I've searched and searched this site and my350z.com. Do a search and all you'll find is butt dynos and heresay when it comes to the gains of these parts. I think the biggest advantage to test pipes is the reduced weight.

As DaveB said, the proof is in my pants (butt dyno) . I felt a noticeable difference when I put mine in but never got it dynoed.

If you are happy with the sound now, I would suggest you just leave it. If you are going to track it and will wind up putting on headers etc, CATs might be worth the cash.

I ventured down the same road you are looking to go. I am getting ready to sell my CATs....the car is fast enough for me stock....going to get some cash back and get some 19's instead

The part numbers for the 05 ypipe are the same between the coupe and sedan. Plenty of people run aftermarket ypipes, and I think there are gains to be had, but I don't know if they're cost effective.

As for the cats/test pipes, I whole-heartedly believe in the gains for these parts. No offense Dave, but it's unanimous amongst the tuners that the stock cats *are* very restrictive. I actually spoke to Sharif a couple of weeks ago about this very topic for a few minutes. Ask sharif, mike@vrt, the guys at mrc or aam, and they'll all tell you to go with test pipes if emissions aren't a big deal, otherwise get hiflow cats.

I know a local 04 6MT z that picked up like 10whp with some no-name brand of test pipes. I was there for his first dyno(nothing but a JWT), and I read about his gains on a local board the next week(same dyno).

I haven't searched for dynos on test pipes *only*, but there's plenty of info to be had. There was a post back in february that showed labree test pipes, plus a tune, showed crazy gains. I just found the thread, but the graph isn't there. It was on a dynapack, but even if the numbers were inflated by 10%, the gains(plus tune) would still be 25.8hp and 11.7tq. Remember, this was with a utec tune. Here's the link: https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=labree

Here's another dyno of thawk on my350z(he's got a revup). He swapped out his crawfords with test pipes and saw 9hp/7.5tq. No tune. Here's the link: http://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=163998

Dave, if I disagree with you on something, I'll usually bring it up(respectfully). You know that. But in this case, I think you're pessimism is getting the better of you.
