Driver Seat Width

Driver Seat Width
I have a G35x on order. All excited. Then I sat in a friends early 2003 model and found that I had an uncomfortable pain in my right thigh. Turns out that it was the seat controls. Never noticed this at the dealer. I thought it might be the older seat has sunk a bit, or that they have improved this in the 2003.5 and 2004. I looked for comments here, and am not the only one noticing this problem, but none of those posts talked about which year car they had.
Has this issue been addressed, or will I be cursing the seat a few months from now? Thanks!

Re: Driver Seat Width
There is a TSB out to remove a bracket and add some padding. That helps some people. It doesn't bother me. Also, sometimes it's just the position you have the seat in.. adjusting the seat angle a bit can make the pressure go away, too.

Re: Driver Seat Width
Yes, but does it help those of us with big, ahhh, thighs. I'm not hugh by other than supermodel standards, but I'm no slim chicken, either. I found the coupe seats just too narrow, but I thought the sedan was fine, at least until I sat in the more used model. Now I'm not so certain. Being very tall, I'm very limited in comfortable seat positions (basically, all the way back, all the way down, some tilt back). If there has been no change to the seat design since the early models, I'm gonna have a problem (note, if it is any help, these seats did not have the Infiniti name and logo stiched into them). Thanks. -John

Re: Driver Seat Width
The sedan seats will be fine for you, hopefully. I'm 6'3", 198lb, and I fit fine. I'm not huge, but I'm not the beanpole I used to be (6'1", 140. My co-workers thought I was bulemic). I think perhaps my right thigh has probably molded to the seat controls since I've put so many miles on this car so soon.
I did notice, however, that an '03 loaner I had (not '03.5) was particularly uncomfortably. Perhaps they'd done some pre-emptive TSB'ing.

Re: Driver Seat Width
I think the new seats are a little different than the '03 seats. I'm 6'0" and weigh 220, and I have NO problem with the seat controls. The seat bolsters feel a little snug on the open freeway, but I really like the way they hold me in on the twistys. I don't think you'll have any problems.

Re: Driver Seat Width
I have a 2003 sedan - seat pain bigtime in right thigh and hip - the TSB#03018 did help somewhat but it's still far from perfect. It was bugging me on my 30 min. drive home this evening. I have had several 2003.5 loaners and the seats are exactly the same except for the Infiniti logo change from stamped to embossed. I have read several posts about the 2004 models and the seats (according to them) remain unchanged.
A number of people have taken several short (20-30min.) test drives (as I did) and felt the seats were ok and purchased, only to find the cumulative effect of the seat controls began to cause them pain in a short period of days or weeks. Others have noticed the pain more on trips of 45 minutes or longer.
I am 5'10" and 200 solid pounds from frequent trips to the gym. The seat pain problem is independent of size/weight issues as some small folks (145-165lbs., tall and thin) DO have the problem and some quite large (250+lbs.) do NOT have the pain.
Overall I like my G sedan a lot, but Infiniti needs to step up to the plate and come up with a REAL solution to this problem! BTW, I have driven dozens of different cars over the last 28 years, including three weeks in a Chevy Cavalier rental after a wreck, and the G is the ONLY car I have ever had any trouble with from the seats. Good luck, and ya might wanna rent/borrow a G35 and take several drives of one hour or longer prior to actually purchasing one.

I have the 03.5 sedan, and hate this seat. I have strong thighs, but not overweight. Love the car -- my best ever, but the seat alone is enough to spoil the fun. As others have said, didn't know with a 10min. salesman limited test drive. After about 30 min. in the car, the pain just grows in the right thigh. Had the seat control TSB performed -- no help at all. If you noticed some pain already -- it won't get better. Most likely you will hate this seat too (sorry to depress you, but you have touched on a SORE subject with me -- no pun intended).
Are you listening Infiniti???
