Paypal Protection

I am selling something currently on the forum and I have a couple concerns. Call me paranoid, but everytime I see someone who doesn't really have i-trader ratings, or is fairly new to the forum, I become scared that they might pull a quick one. There are in fact a lot of scammers on the internet, and I haven't been a victim of one yet, but I do hope it doesn't happen to me. My question is this: If they paypal me, and I send the item to them, is there anyway they can file a claim and just say that I never sent it and have palpal take the money back when in fact I had already sent the item? Since this wasnt an ebay transaction, are they entitled to get their money back? I am asking this because I am selling my rims and some people inquire about them when they just barely joined the forum and only have 1 post. Any insights and precautions I can take to protect myself as a seller? Any inputs are appreciated. Rims are not cheap items, so if i take a hit, it'd be a fairly big hit. And also, please don't think that I am planning on doing this, I am a very honest person and I would never do that to someone especially my fellow G owners.

well they say they offer the best protection when you ship it to the preferred address. Get a signature confirmation, for 2 dollars you can save alot of trouble later on.

I assume you are referring to using usps via paypal. Good suggestion. I think delivery confirmation is free if you use paypal. But you can also request a signature confirmation to futher prove that the goods were received.

Yes, they can choose to withdraw their money from paypal after they send it through.

I suggest you do local sales only at first and ask for cash. If you are having a hard time selling them locally, you may want to take the less safe road and consider shipping them out. JMO

I'm actually selling, not buying. But I always buy from people with reputation (high feedback on ebay, high i-trader on g35) I have confidence in online purchases, just not in the individuals that just goes on forums to rip people off...

well you kind of have to look at it this way. No one starts out with 100 pos feedback. Everyone has to start off somewhere.

Yep. A good friend of mine just got scrooged by them. I am currently looking at alternate methods of sending payments.

I've used Western Union to receive and send money quickly. You pick up the "cash" from any outlet the same day. Then ship the item. It's a bit more expensive but I'd rather pay to feel safe.

NEVER use western union to other people. Receiving it is awesome, but if you send it, HAH, that's like sending cash in the mail.

PayPal is safe if you are shipping it to a confirmed address. That way you'll be covered by their Seller Protection. Make sure your shipment has a tracking number (UPS) or a delivery confirmation number (USPS).

As a buyer and a seller I was really happy with www.escrow.com - I recommend it to anybody that will listen.

I have used PayPal to both buy and sell stuff. As a buyer, I was suprised once when the seller told me he had to wait for the PayPal payment to finalize before he shipped the part. Next time I sold something, I did the same. I only shipped the parts when the PayPal payment was transfered to my bank and when I verified my bank did indeed get the deposit. No problems using PayPal like that!

Ship the package through Paypal nand use the signature confirmation option. That's the best way to prove it was shipped, the confirmation number is linked to the shipping address through paypal, the signature is icing on the cake in case someone else got the package. Shipping at the PO with one of those green delivery confirmation slips isn;t a good idea because you can't really prove it was shipped to that specific buyer.

I've sold and bought alot of things on ebay, so far I got screwed once. I sold an item and shipped it out without delivery confirmation and the buyer claimed it never arrived. Now I always make sure I have some sort of confirmation.
