HELP-Paying too much?
HELP-Paying too much?
Hey all. I got my 2003.5 G Sedan about 4 months ago. It was $33,195 (Bose, Sunroof, Tax, etc.-man i wish i had gotten the premium!). My salesman put me in a 60 month lease to keep my payments low because i planned on buying it in the middle of the lease or terminating the lease and getting a coupe within the first three years. My payments are $482 a month and I put $1300 down ($300 of which covered dealer fees, etc.) I have a 12,000 mile per year limit, which is even a lot for me because i have a second car for business. My friend has a $35,580 coupe and is paying $490 for only a 36 month lease, which i would have liked. He only put down $3000. IS THIS NORMAL?? HELP.. thanks!

Doh.. 60 month leases are bad. Never lease a car for longer than the warranty. For that matter, 2-3 years is as far as you want to go.

In the car discussion forums, there's a "Lease Questions - Ask Here" forum. You can post this question there, and a guy that goes by "Car_man" has all the leasing answers. Though, I'm sure he'll tell you your dealer ripped you a new one.
BTW, terminating a lease early is a bad, bad thing. You're going to pay extra penalties to do that when you decide to get that coupe.
The problem with leasing is that most people don't understand the funny math that goes on behind the scenes. The dealership can work the numbers and so thoroughly confuse you, that it looks like you're getting a better deal.. lower payments over a period of time.. yet you actually wind up paying way too much for a car you won't even own.

Thanks a lot for your help. Guess I got ripped! But, if I wanted the coupe in say, two years, if the dealership buys the sedan off me like a "trade-in" and the used car value of the G stays high, then i shouldn't be too screwed right?? Or is that just what the salesman wanted me to believe...?
