selling car - questions with infiniti financial svcs involved?
Hey all. Not posting a 4-sale in this forum but I did so in the appropriate one. In getting prepared for this I had to call Infiniti Financial Services (IFS) about paying off the loan and the process that takes.
I live in Boston and they said Mass is an "electronic-title" state. Basically, once IFS gets the payoff payment, they <for no given reason> wait 7 days before mailing either me or the Mass-DMV a "Lean-Release" letter. Depending on who gets that letter (it wasn't clear who), the DMV either mails me the title or I have to go get the title at that point.
Obviously this makes selling kind of difficult as potential buyers are not going to want to plunk down large amounts of money and then wait 7+ days to get the car/title. Not to mention it might sound shady/hassle to potential buyers who are not familiar with this process (I certainly was not).
I imagine some of you have been in similar situations. Any thoughts/ideas/experiences to share?
Thanks. And no, I don't want to sell the G. I love it. Just have to. =(

okay heres how it works.... im also in boston area and just went thru this process....
Once you make the payment, lender will notify electronically the DMV that payoff has been received. DMV at that point issues (mail) the title to you so its critical that DMV has your updated address. They will mail the title to address on file. I got the title within 7 days of payment.
And dont worry.... if the buyer likes your car they will pay it off.... the gal i was dealing with did. I gave her the bill of sale and the car as soon as she gave me the cahiers check. I allowed her to drive it up to her place and mail me the plates. Once I received the title (in 4-5 days) she came to my place to pick it up. I kept insurance on the car during the transaction.... so did she as I told her I will drop it (but instead kept it just to cover my butt). The transaction was for $14700.
btw dont forget to put it on craigslist. Thats how i sold mine and it was gone in 2 weeks.
Good luck with your sale.
