difference in motors?
difference in motors?
If the G35 sedan, coupe, altima 3.5, maxima, 350z, I35, fx350 are all the same motor... whats in the tunning makes the HP different.. is it there cam settings, ECU, exhaust, C/Ratio, all of the above? anyone know specificly? There all practically the same???
Re: difference in motors?
i've looked into this when trying to coax more power out of my now dead Maxima. I know that the maxima, altima and manaro (sp) all use a variable capacity intake manifold. A longer intake runner opens at about 3000 rpms to allow for more flow. This allows more more low end torque while boosting higher end power. That manifold does not flow as well as the manifolds on the rear drive products. i was actually researching transplanting he manifold from a Z into my old Max (before she was totaled...RIP.)
Between such cars as the 350Z, G35 C, and G35 Sedan, it looks as if the differences are few. The Z has a higher flowing airbox, and all appear to have different ecu programs. There is conjecture as to whether the G35 sedan 6 speed manual actually makes as much power as the coupe. I want to find a coupe in Chicago to dyno with me on the same day as well as straight-line race the same day to check this out.
The difference between the altima vq and the maxima vq are about none. On the dyno, they both get around 203 hp to the wheels (2k2 and 2k3 maximas). That extra 15 hp is a bit of a mistruth, aka LIE. I haven't seen a dyno of the new 265hp max. i didn race one on the highway in my old 2k2 max 6 speed, he got the jump, but i pulled on him (the new max is heavier than mime was)
I would go ahead and assume that the power differences between the engines are negligable (those engines sharing the same manifold)
i do have MUCH less experiance with the G35 vq however, but i learn fast.

Re: difference in motors?
right murano, sorry. To tell te truth, I thought it was called the manaro (but wasn't sure about the spelling of that)
I was cut off on the highway and my choice was to hit a minivan, or pull left hard. I pulled left, I was on a curved bit of highway, and the car lost traction. Smash. Good news, no one was hurt. Bad news, the guy who cut me off got away. Good news, there was a witness. Bad news, I got a ticket from a state policeman who didn't see it happen, so i have to go to court and bring the witness to get the ticket thrown out. Good news, I drive a rwd G35 instead of a fwd Maxima.

Sorry about the Maxima, how old was it? I have never liked FWD cars, that's one of the things I like about my G! LOL, Manaro was John Travolta's character in Saturday Night Fever!
