Nav disc

My Cousin got an '06 M35 and for some odd reason we decided to take my '04 G for a trip, but my Nav system says "disk error" when attempting to read the Nav disk of his M. It's copy that works just fine in his M, but it won't work in my G. Do someone have any idea why this is an issue?

I think the M has a better navigation, my G has a pretty outdated nav in it. I bet its just not compatible with the newer DVD from the M.

Is there a way to upgrade the nav computer/drive alone to the '06 to gain the new menus and ability to use the newer 7 series disc?

Even among the same car, I don't think you can simply put a newer version of the navi disc into the dvd rom. You must first upgrade the navi system with its 'upgrading' disc, then you can switch to use the newer version disc. So, there are 2 components...
